Is there a difference between CCleaner and webroot's Window Washer? They seem to do the same thing. Is one better than the other?

CCleaner (bleep Cleaner) is a freeware system optimization tool. That removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. The best part is that it's fast! (normally taking less that a second to run) and Free. :flowers:

Cleans the following:

Internet Explorer Cache, History, Cookies, Index.dat.
Recycle Bin, Temporary files and Log files.
Recently opened URLs and files.
Third-party application temp files and recent file lists (MRUs).
Including: Firefox, Opera, Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Office XP, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and more...
Advanced Registry scanner to remove unused and old entries (includes backup).
Including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more...
This software is completely free and contains no Spyware or Adware.

 See for yourself. One difference is that CCleaner is free.
I use this on a daily basis. After each session I run it. It only takes seconds.

Scarlett: I also love CCleaner but have an older version. Should I first uninstall it using Control Panel > Add/Remove then go get the new version or will downloading/installing the new version automatically override the old version? Thanks in advance.

No, just open it. And at the bottom of the interface. Look for Check for updates Click on that and it will take you to the download page. It will override the old version. Easy, breezy

Your welcome. Lol I still can't get over the fact that, I only just noticed yesterday that there was an update available. Must of gotten lazy. :flowers: I had better pay more attention.

And in a related matter. SpywareBlaster requires updating also. Unless you have the subscription, you can not request automatic updates. So if any of have SpywareBlaster you may want to check into that also.

Yes I see.. :flowers: First link does nothing either.. To use them you'll have to go to other forum.
They probably disable the links to force you to visit them because they are official Javacool forum..
Scroll to SpywareBlaster Tips: here..
Sorry for trouble..

1.18.101.
CCleaner has an available update.

CCleaner

v1.18.101
- Entries in winapp2.ini have priority over winapp.ini.
- Updated to support Windows 2003 Server SP1.
- Minor update to Uninstall Programs tool.
- Fixed Options -> Cookies runtime error.
- Fixed part of the Recent Documents cleaning.
- Fixed MS Photo Editor cleaning.
- Minor tweaks and fixes.

For those of you that already have it. Just click on the Check for updates link at the bottom right hand corner of the open program.

I'd like to add that if you d/l this program. Take care not to use the Issues option. As it makes changes to the registery, by deleting registery keys. Unless you are an advanced user that is confident doing so.

If you are a novice (newbie) user. The Windows and the Applications option though is a great way to clean your system of:

Cleans the following:

Internet Explorer
Temporary files, URL history, cookies, index.dat.

Firefox
Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download history.
Windows
Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files and Log files.

Third-party applications
Removes temp files and recent file lists (MRUs) from many apps including Opera, Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, MS Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more...
This software does NOT contain any Spyware, Adware or Viruses.

This will help you to free up space.
