Hi!

Im new here. Im pretty bad at computers so hopefully somewhere here will be able to help.

Today i was fooled into downloading a video (active x) codec that was actually smitfraud. spylocked was installed, along with a few desktop icons.

I havent been troubled by popups or anything, but windows explorer keeps restarting so i cant get anything done without closing the explorer process. obviously this makes using the computer tricky.

ive run everything (spybot, ewido, ad-aware,rogue remover etc) and fixed all the problems, but windows explorer keeps restarting.

my hijack this log is below:

Hi switchingfoot and welcome to the Bleeping Computer forums. My name is Whisperer and I will be helping you with your problem. I am currently a Trainee in Malware removal and, as such, ALL of my fixes will be checked by malware experts. I am sorry for the delay in answering your problem but things are pretty hectic in the anti-malware world. If you still need help then please read on and good luck with the exams
  • If you have not done so already, please do the initial cleanup steps in the following instructions: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting a HijackThis Log
  • I note that you have used the latest version of HijackThis courtesy of Trend Micro. This program is in a BETA development stage and as such we are asking all users to post another log using the older version 1.99.1 for development comparison. We will use both logs in our analysis of your problem. Please download the last version of HijackThis at this link Once downloaded please run the file which will install an up-to-date copy in the following directory C:\HijackThis and also place a shortcut on your desktop.
  • To assist me in any cleanup, I would like you to produce a list of installed programs.
    • To do this open your HijackThis
    • Click on Open the Misc Tools section or Config… button, depending on how you are set up.
    • If you used the Config... option then click the Misc Tools tab
    • Select Open Uninstall Manager , a list of your installed programs will be displayed.
    • Select the Save List… button and save the file to your desktop.
  • Please post in your reply
    • A copy of this list
    • A HijackThis log using v1.99.1
