i recently bought a 500GB external Hard drive, it came FAT32 formatted so i remformatted it to NTFS which is the same as my internal HD, but the problem is, my external HD only appears to have 465GB. I thought formatting it to NTFS would solve this but..

any ideas?

It is as it should be. Hard drive manufacturers do the prefixes in base 10 so 1 GB equals 1 000 000 000 B, while Windows does it in base 2 so that 1 GB equals 1 073 741 824 B. It goes something like this: 80 GB/74 GB, 160 GB/149 GB, 200 GB/186 GB, 250 GB/232 GB, 300 GB/279 GB, 320 GB/298 GB, 400 GB/372 GB, 500 GB /465 GB and 750 GB/698 GB.
