Hey all ive been having alot of problems with my computer recently and i was wondering if you could help ...

ok now heres the problems

1) MASSIVE LAG . i mean slow as HELL . and my computer is not a panzy its really pretty good its fast and hasnt caused many problems in the past . what i get is times when i start up the computer and it literally takes a hour for it to load up the main screen or like to open up something . the spikes are insane .
- this usually occurs after installing something
-- no dont say that i installed a virus , cause i only downlaod from legit sources ( e.g. download.com, cnet.com ect) and i virus scan the file first .

2) the computer will not load up properly . it will start up fine , go to the account choices . i pick mine its usually slow loading , and it will just kinda freeze ... there is four different things that happen
A) the bottom tool bar doesnt load up , its there but its black no words on it ( example "start" ) ... the startup programs on the system try dont appear ... ect
B ) the tool bar will open but the rest of the desktop wont ... ( all the folders and stuff ) the backround image does load up but thats it
C) the tool bar and the desk top dont load up ... no folders no tool bar nothing just the backround image ... mouse worke but u cant click anything nor can u use the task manager
D) everything loads up ( except the startup programs in the system tray ) but like either SEVERE lag or like a freeze ... u can move the mouse but clicking does nothing task manager doesnt work ... nothing
- this happens 99.99999999% of the time after i restart from installing a security anything ( firewall , virus scanner , norton , mcafee, zonealarm , comodo , ect )
-- this only happens from installing a secuirty thingy it doesnt happen any other time to the best of my knowledge .

3) task magager wont stay up .. like if it opens it will stay up for 3 secs that minimize than disapear ... this happens like all the time about 95% of the time i cannot get it to open
-it will not stay open long enough to click something ( ive tried )

thank you all very very much

**************PS i will post my hijack this log on a clean post in a few i am running my final virus scan and i wanna wait till its done ****************8

Hello pro-n00b,

If you still need help, then run these scans, and close the thread you have in progress at
Daniweb. Opening two threads on the same problem wastes our time.

You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
Disable your antivirus program and go here to run BitDefender Online Scan.
Click on I Agree.
Avoid clicking on other links as you don't need to try out the full install at this point, just the online scanner.

When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan".
Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer.

NOTE: If you are running XP SP2, you may need to click on the Information Bar to allow the ActiveX to install and may need to repeat the BitDefender Online Scan.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab.
Click on "Click here to export scan".
Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop.
Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser.
Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here.
Post the BitDefender log.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune DO NOT run it yet.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (formerly Ewido)
This is a 30 day trial of the program

AVG Anti-Spyware is designed to be used to both scan for and remove malicious files and also to run in real-time alongside, but not replace, your existing anti-virus program to give an added layer of protection.
Both the Resident Shield and Automatic Updates will only be available for the thirty day trial period, after that AVG Anti-Spyware will revert to a stand-alone scanner which you can keep and manually update for free and use in a similar way to Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D etc.

1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
4. Accept the default installation path: C:\Program Files\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and click "Next", then click "Install".
5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch ewido by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
6. The main "Status" menu will appear. You can select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Sheild' and 'Automatic Updates'. If you choose to do this, then right click on AVG antispyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
7. Select the "Update" button and click "Start update".
If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG Antispyware Full database installer from here.
8. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method so Windows will start with minimal drivers and running processes.
To do this restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

1.) Double-click the small BLUE Garbage Can ATF-Cleaner.exe file to run the program.
2.) At the top, under Main choose: Select All
3.) Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use the Firefox browser:
1.) At the top, click Firefox and choose: Select All
2.) Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

If you use the Opera browser:
1.) At the top, click Opera and choose: Select All
2.) Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 as follows:

1. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.

Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.

Under "How to Scan?" check all (default).

Under "Possibly unwanted software" check all (default).

Under "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected (default).

Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".

2. Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start.

4. IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.

Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine

AHHHHHHHH

lol thats all i can say ... ok i tried just about everything now and it seems like its getting worse the closer i get to fixing it ....

i did that bitdefender thing , took 5 hours and than got to 99% but it hung there for a while ... than the estimated time left changed to 4 more hours ... so i stoped the search .

the search found 17 or so infected files and deleated all of them

i went into safe mode and did that cleaner thing u said that worked fine

than i did a full scan ... again it took a EXTREEMLY long time and it found one virus or back door thing on a program i just downloaded but hadnt installed yet ...

for some reason it didnt make a report which pissed me off cause it took so long ...

after i restarted the computer practicly died i was just about ready to throw it out it was running so horiblly

-------

after 2 hours or so of fiddling and what not i finnaly got it somewhat working by doing a system restore ..

i did a hijack this scan but thats all i can give you

i know this is kinda unreasonable to say ... but i need you guys to like give me a pretty good weapon this time , cause i dont know if it will start up and work realisticly next time ... ill leave the comp on and not install anything untill u give me some help maybe that will help

it seems that this problem occurs whenever i install something ,,, but mainly when i install something security wise ... like a new scanner or firewall or w.e

just another really short discription of what happens the comp will load up into my login and start up sorta ... but it will take forever for the thing to get moving it will load up my icons and the tool bar ect in a few secs than the icons will go like the images will disapear leaving just the original default icons

than it will just lag there ... like i can click on stuff but it will never prompt through it will just sit there

if i wait long enough it will start to go though with it but it will literally take HOURS

ill post the hijack this log on the next post

Hello pro-n00b,

Please do not post any logs I do not ask for (like the Deckard's System Scanner you just posted).

I see Viewpoint installed.
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now, if you did not install it.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

Reboot your computer.

**********************

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

Hi pro-n00b,

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the ComboFix log and a fresh Hijackthis log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
Disable script blocking if you have Norton Antivirus installed so it will not interfere with the fix.

To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking
Start Norton AntiVirus. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
Click Options. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
Click OK

Trojan Hunter has been reported to detect combofix as Worm.Qiv.100.
