So, I was a little bored the other day, and came up with the following as a "mascot" for Bleeping Computer.

Of course, since I have absolutely no standing in this matter, and even if it ever came to a vote I'd only have one vote in 116,897 (the current number of BC members), I'd wear this on a t-shirt if there ever was one.

It's a Peliguin -

I call it "original fart work", since I was just fartin' around when I made them.

It gets even worse, as the old pelican limerick bounced around in my brain:

What a strange bird is the peliguin

whose wing is no more than a small fin.

It is fish that they seek

which they scoop up in their beak

and then waddle around with a grin.

and...

A Peliguin is a strange bird you see

who has come to roost at BC.

He knows very much

about stuff and such

and can even use a PC!

I'm working on a view of the Peliguin facing forward, and, maybe even one of him holding up the monitor screen like the guy at the top of each page.

Or, maybe not.

I may be bored, but I'm not bored certified, at least, not yet.

Well,

I've also been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personalities),

so let me know if she gives a group rate.

Interisting, I would just like to know where you got the idea to use a Peliguin.

Well,

since we are Bleeping Computer, I thought of the image with "Bleep! Bleep!" as a take-off on the Road Runner cartoon. Knowing I couldn't use the Road Runner bird, or even a close similarity, I felt maybe some other bird would do saying "Bleep! Bleep!"

I suppose there are a lot of combinations of birds that seem a little different - owl head and penguin body, for example, but penguins and pelicans seem unique to me.

Thinking I had come up with an original thought (hey, it could happen!), I wondered - Maybe there already is either a Peliguin or a Penican? I did find one excellent photo-shopped photograph of a Peliguin (google Images - "Peliguin") and a much different version or rendering of a Peliguin.

So, while I'm not the first to envision the existance of such a creature, and probably won't be the last, I believe my image of them is just as possible as any.

Maybe better - mine speeks "bleep".

Well that makes sence, too bad you didn't beat Time Warner to the bird. I like the idea and creativity though.

I would like to know what others think about the bored mascot...

this could generate several published papers, from multiple psychologists and psychiatrists. I think this is worth several years of electroshock therapy.

In all seriousness, I realize my bleeping Peliguin may not be the best idea for BC, but I was somewhat hoping it would spark some interest in maybe coming up with something that many of us would like to see on t-shirts, hats, coffe mugs, mouse pads, etc. just in case the powers that be here someday say "what the heck, let's do it."
