Hello smurph

Welcome to Bleeping Computer!

If you still need help, please post a new HijackThis log to make sure nothing has changed. Before posting the log, please make sure you follow [acronym="Really important!
Also the online scanners!

"]all[/acronym]
the steps found in this topic:

Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log <--link

And I'll be happy to take a look at it for you.

I also need to see a different type of log from Hijackthis:
  • Run Hijackthis.
  • Click on "Open the Misc Tools section".
  • Next click on "Open uninstall manager".
  • Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file.
  • Place the content of that file here in your next reply.
Thanks, for your patience.

Stelios

Hi smurph

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
=====

Please visit the online Jotti Virus Scanner Posted Image<--link
  • Click on Posted Image button.
  • Copy and paste the following filepath in the box:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\CID6LNCH.EXE

  • Click on the Posted Image button.
The scanner will check the file with various AV companies.
  • Copy and paste the results box into a reply to this thread.

VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware.

Disclaimer
This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 10Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

Sponsored by donations (in random order) from: Stormbyte Technologies LLC, The ClamAV project, Steve S., Eric Johansen, Eric Schechter, Paul Bokel, Wilders Security, Wilfried Lilie, Prevx, SonicWALL, Lance Mueller, Ewido networks, HotelScraper.com, people who donated in the past, and some people who prefer to remain anonymous... many thanks to all!

Hi smurph

Why to you want to delete this files this are legit files! Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;285798

The %SystemRoot%\System32\Perflib_Perfdataxxx.dat files are created by the System Monitor. When you shutdown normally, the file should be deleted.

=====

I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:
  • False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
  • System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either Symantec AntiVirus Client or AhnLab V3 Internet Security 2007 Platinum.

If you choose to remove Norton follow this: How To Completely Remove Norton Security Products

And please I’m not familiar with AhnLab V3 Internet Security 2007 Platinum does it come with a firewall also? Cause if not:
IMPORTANT It is important that you use a software firewall, to prevent unauthorised traffic both out of and into your computer. Your log doesn't show a firewall running. If you have disabled it, please re-enable it. If you do not have a firewall installed, please download and instal one of these excellent (and free) products: Zone Alarm or Sygate It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download both to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

If you are using the built-in Windows XP firewall, it is not recommended as it does not block outgoing connections. Simply put, Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution.

Please follow the above! Post a new Hijackthis log and let us know of any other problem!

I guess I was more worried about what they were. In my original question in another thread I was told I have to get rid of them. My problem is they were never there until one day they just started showing up. But if they are normal then I wished someone would have told me that. But I will take your advice about the firewall. We do have a Unix Firewall within our own intranet but when I am out of our intranet then I am using the microsoft one.

I did use the Prevx scan and it did find and fix two files.

Thank you

Hi Steve

You’re welcome!

Uninstall Norton (Symantec) and if you want post a new Hijackthis log to clean the remains of it.

Stelios,

Thank you so much for your help and support. Since I ran the anti-virus program my computer works fine except for when surfing. I think my old dial up was twice as fast. Since this is a brand new laptop with all kinds of extra junk on it I am thinking of formatting the harddrive and startting over. There is so much stuff on a new computer that I don't need.

I have Norton Corporate Edition for a Virus Scanner and now know I need more. Do you have any suggestions for spyware, malware etc or should I just get all Norton stuff?

Again thank you.

Hi steve

I think Norton is too heavy for the laptop.

I can tell you what I use!

Avast free
Comodo free
AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 free
Spywareblaster for IE free
Ad-Aware SE Personal free
Spybot S&D free

Safe surf!

The Comodo is giving me fits. I can not connect to anything with this program running. I have added zone after zone, added new sites and did the scans but can not get a internet connection or a local area connection. I am somewhat frustrated and maybe the whole thing is too new for this old man. I understand what a firewall is but can not get it to work. Is there some type of simple steps I have to make to make my internal card, my wireless card and my cell phone card work?
