SO I saved some important files i needed by burning them onto a disk....Then I put my winxp cd in my drive and it wouldn't read it, I tried a bunch of other cd's and I got the same error which is....

DISK IS NOT FORMATTED
WIndows cannot read from disk. THe disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.

Hi Marten28,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

I am sorry to tell you there is a bot worm on your computer. This is a very serious infection because it gives a hacker control over your machine.

Here is a description of the worm.

Please do two things right away.

First, because this bot can allow a hacker to access private information on your computer, please go to a clean computer and change all your online passwords -- banking, credit cards, e-mail, everything. Then, keep this computer disconnected from the internet as much as possible, except as needed to download removal tools and communicate with me for this fix.

Second, please read these articles:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

Security Management - May 2004
Help: I Got Hacked. Now What Do I Do?
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community...gmt/sm0504.mspx

Security Management - July 2004
Help: I Got Hacked. Now What Do I Do? Part II
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community...gmt/sm0704.mspx

If you use this computer for online banking or shopping, contact your banks and credit card companies and ask them to put a watch on your accounts. Make sure you monitor them yourself, also.

Now, let's see if we can kill this worm. Please note, this may not fix your problem with disk access. We'll get to that after we are sure your machine is clean.

First step is to run a special tool created for this type of infection.

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(this is the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix). DO NOT use it just yet.

Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Open the SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts, the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.
  • Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
If you have trouble booting into safe mode do not try to run SDFix in normal mode, it will not work. Post a reply describing what you did and any error messages that you got when trying to boot into Safe Mode.

In addition to the SDFix log and a fresh HJT log, if you have log files from any of the scans you ran (for example Ad-Aware, which is one of the programs we ask you to use before posting a log) could you post them as well?

Note that if the logs are long and you have several of them, you may have to split your reply into two or more posts.

Finally, a request. Since you are typing at a full size keyboard, there is no need to use text message abbreviations. Please use standard English spelling and grammar. Thank you.

Dave

Hi again,

Just found you have a post about this problem on GTG:

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Computer-Fr...ng-t159532.html

Nobody there has answered yet, so please notify them that you are being helped here.

If someone had answered you there, it would have been awkward. You should only work with one helper on a problem like this. Please keep this in mind for the future. Posting in multiple forums can mean that several helpers spend time analyzing the same log, while other logs go unanswered.
