I have a new laptop and I clean out my temps about once every week. I have never seen files like this one "Perflib_Perfdata_7d0.dat" until just yesterday. I have not loaded any newe programs or anything like that but my problem is I can not delete these files. I can log in as another user and go to the temp directory of my user and the files are not there. The update every time I start Windows. I am running XP Pro and am worried that I have a virus or spyware. I have Norton Corpoarte Edition, Adware, and now just installed AhnLab V3 Internet Security 2007 Platinum and it does not find any spyware or virus.

Can anyone tell me what these files are and should I be worried about anything?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Doing a search, suggest it's of rather dubious nature. I'd go to the malware and HiJack forums and continue there

More info here: http://www.mcse.ms/showpost.php?p=4355853&postcount=5

But it doesn't discuss the malware aspect in detail - and I find that there's a lot of systems with these files that are infected. I'm thinking that there's a virus that corrupts the Performance Monitor data (or the properties to the Temp folder).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
