The reviews I read were great so I think you can go wrong with that.

Here are some ideas if nobody else comes up with anything.

If you can plug them into your stereo, i-pod or any other music playing device with Left-Right balance on them, turn the balance all the way to left or right and you should get your answer.

Sorry if this is too simple and something you've already tried.

You could also try your audio device on your PC to see if it has some sort of sound test on it.

Or maybe try playing a game on the PC using them and listening for sound changes in the environmnet.

Dont forget to mark them up afterwards.

I have Radio Shack headphones with in-line volume control.
In the past, I've used Koss and the only problem I had with them-they weren't puppy proof when he chewed on them.

I picked up quite a good DSE pair from our local Dick Smith Electronics store. They have the built in protruding mic and are excellent for Skype or Google Talk. They are also powered by a plug in battery pack or USB, so vibrate for games or louder music. Inline volume control and 2 stage vibrator switch. I don't game but I bought a pair for my 18yo and he reckons they are great. The best thing though was that they were on special - NZ$50 down to $29.95.
