I'm cotterpotter's daughter, trying to help with this issue. She has a subscription to McAfee good until 10/07. (Been running McAfee for years) Back in April she was unable to download any updates - the program kept telling her she had to be online. She is online, all the time, cable connection. I was no help in diagnosing this over the phone, so said we should wait 'til I arrived at the end of May. Here it is, end of May and I'm about ready to through the bleeping computer through the window.
We cannot seem to connect to tech support at mcafee or any of the help pages. I was online with CS and after learning the problem, they directed me to a TS web site - comes up fine on my computer, can't get to it on hers. So then I started thinking that as there were certain web sites she could not access at McAfee, maybe she'd had her brower hijacked... so I downloaded that and ran it and have saved the results. But going to the hijackthis form I see that you're supposed to list what the browser is doing. Well, it doesn't seem to be the brower.
I'm only visiting until Thursday (5/31). We've gone through add and remove programs and deleted mcafee totally, thinking that would aid in a "fresh" download - no luck. She did a defrag - no difference, she went back and chose a date before all this happened, (and McAfee was still working) no good... If we can't even access the site from her computer, I am at a loss.
Do any of you have any ideas??
