A few days ago, I had to re-install and un-install Adobe Photoshop CS3. Now that this has happened, I can't get my scanner to work, I can barely pull images off my dSLR and TWAIN capture is completely disabled for ALL applications and devices. My restore also got corrupted. Is there anything I can do? I've tried going through the registry to see if I could find anything but I can't. I already tried un-istalling and re-installing my scanner. I can only get pictures off of the camera by opening them up in Explorer and manually copying them. When I plug my ipod in the AutoPlay menu is blank, although it works with iTunes and WinAmp fine.

Also, FireFox now opens all external links in the current window. It used to be in a new window. Every time I change it, something changes it back. This might be due to a trillian update.

I can't think of any easy fixes for this, but this procedure should fix things (although it's a real PITA):

1) Uninstall all of that stuff that's not working right. This includes Firefox, Photoshop, your camera, your scanner, Trillian, your iPod and iTunes.
2) Repair XP (won't lose your files) according to these directions: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
3) Reinstall everything. Test it after each installation (including a reboot even if it isn't required). This will let you know what's causing the problem if it crops up again!
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

For the Firefox problem, click on edit and select preferences. Click on tabs and check "pages should be opened in a new window"

All I did was uninstall ANYTHING that had to do with my camera, webcam and scanner. Then I did a repair install of Windows. Slipstreaming my WinXP (no service packs) with SP2 saved me a crapload of time. Everything now works as it should.

THANKS!

If Firefox is a problem, here's how to fix it (IMO):

1) Download a copy of the latest version of Firefox ( http://www.mozilla.com/ )
2) Backup your bookmarks
3) Uninstall Firefox
4) Delete the Mozilla Firefox folders in the Program Files directory and the Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox folder in your User Profile
5) Install the new copy of Firefox
6) Import your bookmarks.
7) Reinstall your extensions - one-by-one - testing to see if any of them have caused this issue.
