I am care giver to my aging mum, doing everything she asks of me.. which also makes me her computer repairman...
Every week or two she calls me to fix her new HP XP Notebook.. with some of the weirdest glitches you could imagine...
Today I walks-in to run the cleaners on her PC, and I can't find defrag, scandisk, nor cleanup in accessories..?

I suppose I could run a search, and move those links to the desktop, then back into accessories...
Anybody got any ideas what she could have done to mess up accessories so bad, given that she doesn't go into accessories..? Is there an instant cure to this glitch, which I can teach her, and warn of what not to do..?

Did you look in the recycle bin to see if she deleted anything?

Scandisk aka ChkDisc and Defrag are in the Properties of the system drive.
In Windows Explorer, select C or whatever is the system drive, right click, properties, tools and schedule scandisk. It'll run on next reboot. Then from the same place run Defrag. In that sequence.

I would suggest that you may want to utilize the free Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit located here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx

One of the things it will do is let you reset the computer to a "steady state" - so that when it boots up in the morning it is exactly as it was the previous morning - thereby "automatically" fixing any problems that have been caused in the meantime.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

- John  (my website: http://www.carrona.org/ )**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **  If I haven't replied in 48 hours, please send me a message. My eye problems have recently increased and I'm having difficult reading posts. (23 Nov 2017)FYI - I am completely blind in the right eye and ~30% blind in the left eye.<p>If the eye problems get worse suddenly, I may not be able to respond. If that's the case and help is needed, please PM a staff member for assistance.
