I've got this dead Compaq Armada 7400 and it needs a new hard drive, the original specs for the HDD was like 6.4GB, but now we know there's higher HDDs for cheap now, I'm wondering what is the smallest amount Ubuntu 7.04, (or 6.10 I have both.) needs? Because I'm not sure the older laptop BIOS or something will recognize a large HDD, I pulled out the broken one, and it was actually a 12.7GB. I believe that's because it was replaced three times.

Also, can ubuntu, when installed on a Laptop, use a wireless PCIMIA card?

Thanks a bundle

- Josh

I have Xubuntu on my laptop with a 6 GB hard drive and and it detects my Linksys wireless Pcimia Natively in 7.04. Ubuntu should fit on a 6 GB hard drive as I have plenty of space left (2gb+) on mine with the studio package installed. If the Laptop has a P3 or less and 256mb or less RAM I would suggest using Xubuntu instead. I think the minumum System Requirements are a 1GHz processor and 256 mb RAM for Ubuntu.

Yeah, it's a P2, and from what I can tell, its only got 64MB of Ram...

So, Xubuntu is smaller than Ubuntu?
