AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! My home page is being hijacked by what I think is TIBS41. Yeah, yeah, yeah...someone was apparently viewing porn - actually my kidlets' babysitter, but you won't believe that it wasn't me so I won't even make excuses - and my computer caught a disease that isn't curable with penicillin.

When I try to access Yahoo! my window defaults to about:blank...very annoying to the point that I have done enough research to lead me here.

Here's my HJT log!

This isn't so bad... I think we can get you cleaned up :flowers:

Please download the CWShredder (Standalone version)

Download the latest version of Adaware here:

Adaware
Install it, but don't run it yet. Click on the globe in the upper right hand corner to get the latest updates.

Download and install APM from here:
http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm
(don't run it yet we will get to that in a minute)

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.yoursearch247.com/se.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

**********

Now, start APM.
In the upper window select explorer.exe
In the lower window find and rightclick the O2 - BHO: entry from your HijackThis log.

In the current log it is this file but it may have changed names.
It is currently :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EF3846F4-2A22-44E8-8830-C22E1BE1B75F} - C:\WINNT\System32\hhik.dll
<--This file name

It is the 02 BHO entry with no description, in case it has changed names. It is not tied to any program you recognize.
Select Unload DLL, and click OK on the prompts that follow.

**********

Boot into SAFE MODE by tapping the f8 key during boot up.

Run the Shredder, and let it fix everything it finds.

Run Adaware, and let it fix everything it finds.

Reboot, and go to Start>Windows Updates> and download all of your critical udates. You are so far behind that you are going to be quickly reinfected.

Then reboot and post a new HJT log.

If this works...you are a GOD! I will deny I said that if your mate asks you if another female has ever called you any form of a diety.

Fingers crossed this works!!

I'll post the HJT log when I'm done

Ok Groove, here's the scoop.

Went through your instructions - I even printed them out - and to the best of my knowledge did everything as instructed.

When I went to update, I thought I was in trouble because I was greeted with the familiar SpySweeper pop up stating that my homepage had been changed. I went into updates and tried to load them. The MS page didn't even have time to load when I was defaulted to about:blank.

You are still holding your position as a minor diety, but I'm hoping you reach full-fledged god status soon!

What's your Plan B? My computer is at your mercy!

Umm... did you skip any steps up there? The file is still there :flowers:

The fix is exactly the same...

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all

In the current log it is this file but it may have changed names.
It is currently :

Run the Shredder again.

Run Adaware again.

G-man,

Back from the dark side. I haven't done the Windows update yet, but here is the log from my latest attempt!

If it matters to you, neither adaware or shredder pulled anything off my 'puter this time around.

Ok, you got it that time. Now I need you to do a couple more things.

First, download SpywareBlaster from here:
http://www.download.com/SpywareBlaster/300...page&tag=button
Install it and enable all protections.

Open notepad and paste in the following lines:

del c:\ *.tmp
del %temp%\*.tmp /f
del %windir%\prefetch\*.*
del %windir%\temp\*.* /f
del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\temp\*.*

Save to desktop as 'clean.bat' , file types as 'all-files'.

DoubleClick on the icon, and say yes when prompted.

**************

After you have done that, go ahead and try to get your updates.

You did it!!! Windows is looking for the updates and it has yet to default to about:blank. I guess I should periodically check for updates, huh?

I'm going to let this load and head to get some sleep...an early morning tomorrow. If there is a next step, I'll check tomorrow. If not, is it necessary to go out and post that you have achieved god status?

By the way, unless sarcasm is intended, you may want to rethink saying "I think we can get you cleaned up" to a female :flowers:

THANK YOU!!!!

There are no males or femals on here..we are all just bits and bytes and carefully arranged electrons....

Yes, check periodically for updates. If everything goes well, I have no further instructions, other than check out the post in my sig for some helpful tips.

I was hoping I would not need your help again, but when I logged on today I was hijacked yet again by about:blank.

I haven't done anything yet other than run HJT.

Bummer..... :flowers:

Hopefully you still have APM and the CWS shredder, because we will need them again.

Put a checkmark next to the following entries in HijackThis. Make sure all
other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”
.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.dll/sp.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
O2 - BHO: REALBAR - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-C0FF-FD60B590A87D} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Real\Toolbar\realbar.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6E7C4559-63D3-4E05-BC88-5190B532FA06} - C:\WINNT\System32\fgnedaa.dll
O18 - Filter: text/html - {BD211BDD-9948-4ACB-9D3E-1C03774D99B7} - C:\WINNT\System32\fgnedaa.dll
O18 - Filter: text/plain - {BD211BDD-9948-4ACB-9D3E-1C03774D99B7} - C:\WINNT\System32\fgnedaa.dll

***********************************************************************

Now, start APM.
In the upper window select explorer.exe
In the lower window find and rightclick the O2 - BHO: entry from your HijackThis log.

In the current log it is this file but it may have changed names.
It is currently :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6E7C4559-63D3-4E05-BC88-5190B532FA06} - C:\WINNT\System32\fgnedaa.dll
<--This file name

It is the 02 BHO entry with no description, in case it has changed names. It is not tied to any program you recognize.
Select Unload DLL, and click OK on the prompts that follow.

***********************************************************************

Boot into SAFE MODE by tapping the f8 key during boot up.

Run the Shredder again.

Run Adaware again.

***********************************************************************

I need you to do me a favor. Please do not surf to any more sites until we get this clean. And then as soon as you are clean, get your critical updates. Your protection software will only get you so far, and you can literally be infected within seconds of surfing to a website.

Let me know how that goes,

More than a bummer :trumpet:

I've gone through the removal process twice tonight with no luck...and I was sure that I removed all the stuff you listed from my hjt log.

I did download the Windows updates as you suggested...was that only 2 short evenings ago? When I went through the removal process each time tonight the first thing I tried doing was to go to Windows Update, but I was immediately bounced to about:blank.

I'm off to try for a third time tonight. I'll check back for what you may think of this when I run through it yet one more time. I will run hjt after I've gone through the removal process but before I connect to the 'net.

I'm beginning to really dislike being hijacked :flowers:
