Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today.
You are running MyWebSearch (or MyBar). Although not technically malware, it is thought to be bad by many experts and it will bring malware with it. There are safer alternatives available such as the Google toolbar. My Web Search also known as the My Way Speedbar is the Internet Explorer toolbar part of the Fun Web Products suite of utilities such as Smiley Central, Cursor Mania, My Mail Stationary, My Mail Signature, PopSwatter, Popular Screensavers, and the My Way website portal. The toolbar allows easy access to search engine results and a 404 Error Redirector called My Total Search among other things to your browser. This is not to be confused with the IBIS Web Search toolbar. MyWay is a search toolbar that installs into Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, adding search functions and popup blocking. It reports your surfing activity anonymously to MyWay affiliates, helping them to serve targeted advertising to you. As a BHO, MyWay shares the memory that your browser uses, detects events, creates additional windows while you are surfing, and monitors your activity. When a new browser window is opened, MyWay will send a configuration request about 5k in size.
Although none of these products claim to be spyware, they do slow your computer down. All of the products use cookies to track usage, although they claim not to use cookies or anything else to track personally identifiable information. That being said, I would still recommend uninstalling the toolbar and other Fun Web Products if you feel your computer runs better without them. They are found by most spyware removal tools such as Spybot Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware.
If you want to get rid of this program, removal instructions can be found here.

I do not recommend that you have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at a time.
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other antivirus products to create "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.
In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause false alarms - when the antivirus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. Also it can cause system performance problems; your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and remove either AVG or McAfee.

There are a few steps I want you to complete to try and resolve the slow down on your computer.
A whole host of reasons might account for this slow down, but I will highlight the most prominent ones below.
On most computers malware is the most common cause, but at the moment I do not think this is the case.
You might like to limit the programs that are loading when your computer starts; you might have unnecessary software loading when you boot your computer which is eating away at your CPU and ultimately slowing down your computer. Many programs install a quick launch feature which is not needed; if you want to use the program you can start it up manually. The easiest way to see whether a program is needed at startup, you can use bleeping computer's own list, which gives an indication of whether the program is required/optional etc. Note that essential processes such as those for your anti-virus or your modem must be kept.
So, firstly click on start, then run and type msconfig. Then hit enter.
Click on the startup tab and a list of programs will appear.
You can compare the startup name with those on the startup list. The link is below:
www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups

To stop a program loading at boot, just remove the tick.
Click "OK", and choose to restart.

You might like to try and clear clutter off your computer, and free up some space on your hard drive.
Old games, unwanted photos and unused programs could be a starting point.
You can also clear clutter such as temporary files by doing the following:
Go to Start | Run.
Type the following in the box --> cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure only Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Next you can defragment your hard-drive...when was the last time you did this?
Windows puts new files in any available open space and defragging will cluster files closer together making your hard drive more efficient.
This saves wear and tear while speeding up programs.
1. Open My Computer.
2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
4. Click Defragment.
5. This process takes quite a long time, so be patient.

You might also like to read the following tutorial as additional information to the above:
These self-help instructions can be found here

Also try running the Windows repair facility:
Go to Start | Run and type in "sfc.exe /scannow" (without the quotes) and press Enter. It may ask for your XP Installation CD. Once it's done, please visit Windows Update to ensure that you've got the latest hotfixes and updates (sfc.exe replaces system files when it runs).

Post back letting me know if these steps help.
Thanks,
Charles

EDIT: I'd like a new HijackThis log too, please.

okay, i've gone through and uninstalled and deleted programs i didnt use or need, and deleted old songs and pictures. i did a defrag, the cleanmgr, removed anything dealing with the toolbar, and as far as running two antivirus', i'm not. the computer came with a mccrappy antivirus that malfunctioned and wouldnt uninstall. the tool that the mcaffee website offered left trash on the computer that you can't even delete manually, i've tried. you get an error report stating that certain files could not be deleted. here is the new HJT log:

Hi there,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

If McAfee is present in Add/Remove Programs, try uninstalling it from there first. If not, continue with the manual removal.

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

O23 - Service: McAfee WSC Integration (McDetect.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee.com McShield (McShield) - Unknown owner - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Scheduler (McTskshd.exe) - McAfee, Inc - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - McAfee, Inc - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee Personal Firewall Service (MpfService) - McAfee Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SpamKiller Server (MskService) - McAfee Inc. - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\SPAMKI~1\MSKSrvr.exe

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Download this tool to your Desktop, but don't run it yet.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.
Make sure you choose the option without Networking Support.

Set your system to show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Next, please find and delete the following folder (if present):

c:\program files\mcafee.com

Copy and paste the following text into Notepad:
sc stop McDetect.exe
sc delete McDetect.exe
sc stop McShield
sc delete McShield
sc stop McTskshd.exe
sc delete McTskshd.exe
sc stop mcupdmgr.exe
sc delete mcupdmgr.exe
sc stop MpfService
sc delete MpfService
sc stop MskService
sc delete MskService
Save this as "services.bat" Choose to save as *all files and place it on your Desktop.
Double-click services.bat.

Run the MCPR.exe file we downloaded earlier.

Reboot into Normal Mode again, then scan once more with HijackThis and post back the new log.
Thanks
Charles

Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open, click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan has finished - if anything malicious is found - click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your Desktop, so you can post this log in your next reply.

Post the Panda log in your next post along with a new HJT log.
Thanks,
Charles
