Hi all i was given a ibm thinkpad 39x it has 256 megs of ram and a 10 gig hd i was given a copy of xp on cd but when i put the disc in it brings up the install screen but after clicking on install the system freezes and then i eventually get a error message [Winnt32 has caused an error in pidgen.dll winnt.32 will now close]
i have tryed booting from disk but that freezes the system up two i have updated the bios but can't work it out .

PIDGEN.DLL is an important file for the installation of XP - do you have a legitimate copy of the XP CD or is it a copy?
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

How old is the laptop? I had an older Thinkpad with Win2K on it. To put XP on it, it needed a BIOS upgrade. Just another thing to look into
