Hey all, I've got a pretty new Dell laptop, running Windows XP and Internet Explorer, that I depend on every day for all my school work. Recently though, it has started acting up with slow working speed and tons of pop-ups, even though I have the pop-up filter set to High.

Most of these pop-ups begin with the address of: "url.cvpfeed"

In response to this, I installed Ad-Aware SE, CounterSpy, Stinger, yet they find nothing relating to cvpfeed.

I already had Spybot Search & Destroy, and when I run it, it finds I also have a SmitfraudC. CoreService on there, that it cannot remove. So I DL'ed the Smitfraudfix.exe, ran it like instructions showed, yet after re-starting the computer, Spybot showed Smitfraud still existed!

I installed the HJT and have run the scan and here is the log it returned below:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum whtlghtn49

Go to and delete:
C:\Documents and Settings\Dr. Carthel\My Documents\HijackThis.exe

Download and install Hijackthis.
This is a self-extracting version which will automatically install HJT to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis by default.
A desktop shortcut can be created during install under 'Select Additional Tasks'.

**************************

Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Beta/ComboFix.exe
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

**************************

Now go to:
C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
Right click on Hijackthis.exe and select 'Rename', rename it to abc.bat
Double click on abc.bat(which is still Hijackthis.exe),post that log into your next reply please.

Hey, Richie, thanks for all the new advice! I did everything you said in the above post, and hopefully it helped. Computer seems to be running almost as good as new, though there is one problem, but it is a long-term problem. After about the 3rd or 4th month I owned it, it began to take an extremely long time to start up. That is still the case. Probably not related to any viruses/spyware, but oh well. Other than that, I can happily report no pop ups lately! You are a miracle-worker! Here is the AVG Spyware Report, which I just finished running.

Thanks so much Richie. I did everything you instructed, and downloaded and installed the AVG anti-virus. I really appreciate all your help.

What SpyWare/Adware programs do you recommend I keep on my computer? I currently have SpyBot S&D, CounterSpy, Ad Aware SE, AVG Anti-Spyware, HJT, ComboFix, Stinger, VirtumondeRemover, and Smitfraudfilefix on my desktop. Should I keep all these, or just keep a couple and delete the rest?

Also, I now have the AVG anti-virus and the ZoneAlarm firewall.

Does all this look ok, or should I add/delete some from my computer?

Thanks again for all your help, the difference it has made in my computer is night & day!

Delete the following:
Smitfraudfilefix
VirtumondeRemover
HJT
ComboFix
Stinger

You've got CounterSpy and AVG Anti-Spyware installed, you just don't need both, uninstall one of them via Add or Remove Programs.
Other than that, you should be just fine.
