Hi there,

I have partially lost my start menu. Nothing appears when you click it, also I am unable to run any anti-adware programs i.e Ad-aware, S&D or AVG. Please help. I have run the latest version of stinger with no success.

Thanks

* Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):
To do this, click 'Start' then 'Control Panel', then double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
New.Net(NewDotNet)

* After that reboot your system.

* Run the Panda online virus scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location and post it here with a new hijackthis log.

Hi there,

Sorry I'm unable to get this laptop online to run the virus scan, as it has been brought to me at work and I will be unable to connect it to the network. I have removed New.net with add/remove programs.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I am unable to boot up at the moment. Every time I try to boot a blue screen of death flicks on for a milisecond and then the computer restarts. I've tried booting in too safe mode but the same happens. Is there any alternatives?

Thanks

Sorry probably didn't explain that very well. I cannot boot up in to my system at all, so am unable to run HJT. Just after selecting any of the initial options i.e. Safe mode, normal, last know good configuration. The blue screen of death flickers and then the computer restarts. I have booted into repair mode from my XP disk and run CHKDSK /p /r......this crashes at 25%. When I tried to run again it says "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems."

There is data on there that the person who I'm trying to fix this for really would like back, but as this is a laptop, and it has no easily accessible hard drive, I'm not going to be able to remove it and use an external USB device to read the drive. Any other ideas?

I really don't have any idea, maybe you should start a topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/56/windows-xp-home-and-professional/
