There's no sound, well almost I get the typical XP sounds (when turning the pc on/off, when error pop ups come up etc) but beside that nothing. I ran the DirectSound test got this DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver) How can i fix this? I have a Realtek AC97 Audio.

That's the same audio I have now. I would try reinstalling the sound driver, and reinstalling Directx too--it sounds like the problem is with one of those two things.

Hi there, I am having the same problem. All windows sounds are playing but that is it. i just did a recovery of my laptop (not with the original OS) and there are no sound drivers installed. It is an old enough machine a Partriot 3005 and was wondering what would be the best way to go about getting the sound drivers or if anybody can help me. have tried universal sound drivers but still nothing. Can anybody point me in the right direction as to where to find a sound driver?
