Hello!

I hope one of you experts (at least) can help! My laptop only seems to read my usb flash drive and no one elses, not even my brothers which is the exact same make it comes up asking to install software that came with it (of course these are flash drives and have no software with them) , it does read some other usb devices like my old ipod and digital camera and at one point i think it did read other usb drives fine but im not 100% on that i now have a new sony mp3 player which i cant use, my laptop make a sound indicating its been hooked up but then when i try and find it on my computer or on the software that came with it (i even installed the drivers off the disc as well as also doing a 'automatic' install) this combined with it making my laptop useless for sharing work and files via usb drives is really ****ing me off

please please can some one help ?

Check your manufacture's website for updated drivers for the USB, and run windows update and make sure your there arent any updates available. Did the USB just suddenly stop reading other drives or did it happen after you installed or removed something?

cheers for the help, I checked my laptops website, there were no driver updates... also ive now noticed my newer SD cards come up as ''install hardware'' etc etc the same as with usb drives... but they are accesable where as the usb drives are not... it seems to be since some point in time (i dont know when but at least 2 or 3 months ago) my laptop has been un able to recognise things properly... I dont know if a system restore would help (but id rather not as i dont want to loose any work) but it seems to regonise anything before this period fine but everything after it has trouble with... it cant read at all

Could any registry changes affect how devices are regonised ?
any software installs ? etc.

any ideas?

Could this be malware? (virus or spyware?)
