Ooohh maann, I think I must have a keylogger. Sometime in the last two months or so, my Neopets account (yeah yeah, I know :P) was taken over and then frozen for "trying to scam other people". Apparently someone somehow got my password and got the stupid thing frozen. I hadn't logged in since February or March sometime, so maybe I've had a keylogger since then? :(

That was the first alarm bell, and the second came about 10 minutes ago when I tried to log onto another similar pet site and was told my password was wrong. I just changed the stupid thing 3 days ago! And I tried to do another lost password, and the e-mail never came. So maybe they changed my e-mail too.. Argh :(

I'm really scared now, because I do my banking on this computer. Heeelp D:

There might be some other bad stuff in there too, because my computer just hates me lately. I got one of those blue screen stop errors (probably the 4th or so I've gotten in the past year) the other day, but I just restarted and it never came back. It was: "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area", "atapi.sys". Oh and add that to the random lockups and shutting-downs and won't-turn-ons.. I think there's something wrong with my power supply or something.

*very mad* :P

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Hello Zhuria,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. :flowers:

I am not seeing much in your Hijackthis log, so we will run some scans and see what they find.

Stop 0x00000050 or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
This may be caused by defective physical memory or incompatible software which caused a hardware driver or service request for data that was not in memory

.

I dont think I can help you with your PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error. My expertise is malware removal and your problems sounds like it is software or memory problem. One of our other forums may be able to help you with it.

Do you know what this is? Did you add it?

C:\Program Files\_Other\VisualHorse\vhorse.exe

Please download A-Squared Free, save it to the desktop.
  • Double-click on a2FreeSetup.exe, follow the installer's instructions.
  • At the end of the install process, make sure Launch a-squared Free is checked, then click Finish.
  • When it launches, it will ask you if you would like to update, click Yes, it will take a few moments to update.
  • When done with the update, if it asks you to restart the application, click Yes.
  • At the main menu, click Scan Now, there will be 4 options, choose Deep Scan.
  • At the end of the scan, click Save Report. Save the report to somewhere convenient, such as your desktop.
  • If malware is found, select all found and click Quarantine selected objects.
******************

You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
Disable your antivirus program and go here to run BitDefender Online Scan.
Click on I Agree.
Avoid clicking on other links as you don't need to try out the full install at this point, just the online scanner.

When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan".
Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer.

NOTE: If you are running XP SP2, you may need to click on the Information Bar to allow the ActiveX to install and may need to repeat the BitDefender Online Scan.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab.
Click on "Click here to export scan".
Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop.
Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser.
Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here.
Post the BitDefender log.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleanerİ by Atribune DO NOT run it yet.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (formerly Ewido)
This is a 30 day trial of the program

AVG Anti-Spyware is designed to be used to both scan for and remove malicious files and also to run in real-time alongside, but not replace, your existing anti-virus program to give an added layer of protection.
Both the Resident Shield and Automatic Updates will only be available for the thirty day trial period, after that AVG Anti-Spyware will revert to a stand-alone scanner which you can keep and manually update for free and use in a similar way to Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D etc.

1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
4. Accept the default installation path: C:\Program Files\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and click "Next", then click "Install".
5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch ewido by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
6. The main "Status" menu will appear. You can select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Sheild' and 'Automatic Updates'. If you choose to do this, then right click on AVG antispyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
7. Select the "Update" button and click "Start update".
If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG Antispyware Full database installer from here.
8. Exit AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Thank you for helping me Mike :)

A few things before I get to the logs:

I dont think I can help you with your PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error. My expertise is malware removal and your problems sounds like it is software or memory problem. One of our other forums may be able to help you with it.

No problem, I was just cursing my computer, not really asking you for help. The good news is my computer didn't act up during all the scans, so I'm very impressed with it. :P

Do you know what this is? Did you add it?

QUOTE
C:\Program Files\_Other\VisualHorse\vhorse.exe

Yep, that's a program to keep info for my horse.

Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine

(2) At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button.

Okay, I screwed up on this part. Well. Not really ME. I left it on last night to scan because it wasn't finished and I was tired. I woke up this morning to find my computer off and my dad said "it was finished, I deleted the bad stuff and closed it" O_O Oh man, did I ever freak out. He didn't even save the log. The paper with the instructions was RIGHT there, if he had just GLANCED at it.. >_<

I know that when I went to bed there were at least 119 items it had found. I can't remember what they were, but he deleted them.

So I started another scan, it just finished a few minutes ago. It only found 10 items. And then, because the freaking screen was 640x480, I couldn't see a lot of the stuff in the window, so I missed the "set all elements to:" thing and skipped to the apply all actions.. THEN I found it. So everything got deleted, again. But I saved the log this time.

The thing is, I recognized those 10 tracking cookies it found in the second scan from the FIRST scan, which should have deleted them, so why were they still there? Should I scan again and this time quarantine them?

Hi Zhuria,

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  jre-6-windows-i586.exe and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
I want you to run another scanner.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
Disable script blocking if you have Norton Antivirus installed so it will not interfere with the fix.

To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking
Start Norton AntiVirus. If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
Click Options. If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
Click OK

Trojan Hunter has been reported to detect combofix as Worm.Qiv.100.

Dammit, the reason I'm late is because I was waiting for a reply notification e-mail and I never got one, I just happened to check the thread today because I thought it odd that you wouldn't reply.. Lol.

Hi Zhuria,

the reason I'm late is because I was waiting for a reply notification e-mail and I never got one, I just happened to check the thread today because I thought it odd that you wouldn't reply..

Yes, I know how you feel. I hate it when the automatic email notification goes on the blink.

The ComboFix log looks clean. :flowers: Lets dig deeper to make sure nothing is hiding.

Both Spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE check for keyloggers, so please download, update and run (one at a time of course!)
Spybot 1.4 and Adaware SE 1.06.r1

Fix whatever they suggest.

If you need help running these tools, here are some helpful tutorials.
Spybot Tutorial
Adaware SE Tutorial

Be sure to run Adaware SE with a Full Scan in the Safe Mode.

How to Reboot into Safe Mode
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key. If that does not work this go to this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/

Ad-Aware SE Setup

After they are finished, please post the logs from your Adaware SE 1.6r1 and Spybot 1.4 , as I need to check it. .

You can get the log by opening Spybot 1.4> select Mode> Advanced > Tools> View Report> copy and paste the report to your reply.

The fastest way to get the Adaware SE log is to navigate to your Ad-aware SE folder: C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\Logs.

Open this folder and find the correct log.
The logs are named "Ad-Aware log##-##-##.txt" (the #'s will be the date of the scan). Highlight all of the text in the logfile with your mouse.
On your keyboard, press Ctrl + C, which will copy the text to your clipboard.
Now be online, logged in and ready to post your logfile.
Press Ctl and V and that will copy your logfile to the post!
