Lots of problems, and they keep growing :( I greatly appreciate any help! Thanks a ton.

So, here we go:

I first starting getting pop-ups after I lent my laptop to a co-worker (for the last time). They started off as IE pop-ups so since I used FF, I blocked IE through ZoneAlarm but then they just went to FF.

Here's the steps and logs I've done so far:

Turned System Restore off.

In safe mode ran the basic scans, Ad-Aware & Spybot S&D. Found a few things and deleted. (S&D found WinAntiVirus2006 and claimed it cleaned it. Don't think it worked though.)

Rebooted back to normal mode and ran combofix.exe and HJT. Here are the logs.

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt even if Vundofix found no infected files.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Also post a new hijackthis log.

Thanks for the response

Throughout the night my virus scan ran (Symantec) and it picked up Trojan, and Trojan.Vundo which had 90 counts for it. So, I then ran Vundofix.exe. Here's the logs:

Checking Java version...

Java version is 1.5.0.9

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report along with a new hijackthis log.

I deleted the entries in HJT and had to use KillBox to delete the .dll

When scanning with Panda, the scan stops at C:/ntldr. I've tried running it 3 times so far and every time it stopped on that spot. Here is the log up to that point:

Incident Status Location

Potentially unwanted tool:application/myglobalsearch Not disinfected hkey_local_machine\software\MyGlobalSearch
Adware:adware/savenow Not disinfected Windows Registry
Spyware:Spyware/Virtumonde Not disinfected C:\!KillBox\nixtnual.dll

Potentially unwanted tool:Application/MyWebSearch Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SecTaskMan\MGSBAR.DLL.q_163A8003_q

Any suggestions to get the scan to complete? Also, the first time that it scanned, it found a virus that it cleaned.

Thanks!

Not too bad. You can use Killbox to delete these files:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SecTaskMan\MGSBAR.DLL.q_163A8003_q
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPMyGlSh.dll

Otherwise your log looks good.
How is your computer running? Any popups or other problems?
