HI
On starting, my computer goes to the black screen asking whether to start in Safe Mode, Last Good Configeration, Normal etc then proceeds to shut down, restart back to the above screen, this happens approx 10 time. When it does eventually load all operation is slow, from opening windows programs to the internet.

Have recently added an IDE, USB external Hard Drive and a very basic home network ie, desktop, laptop, printer, ethernet fast switch and 2 ethernet cables.

Also recently I discovered the my used yahoo account is being used (not someone in my house etc) and not in huge amounts but the free space on my computer seems to be decreasing.

Have done everything suggested in the "Slow Computer/Browser? Check here first" and the "Prep for Hijack log" topics.

Would appreciate if someone had the time to halp me out, am not 100% sure that I have a malious problems or these are just the symptons of a puter going into death throes.

Thank You

A belated howdy shakin_off_dust,

No infection showing here, or anything I might point to as related to the things you describe. But to be sure let's take one different look at things.

Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here.

No additional information in that related to infection, or any obvious signs of perhaps software conflict. If you recently added a USB external Hard Drive and have the computer booting into the startup menu (Safe Mode options etc.) you are very likely talking about a hardware conflict. IRQ or driver as well. Why not post the information you provided in the beginning of your request here as a new request in the BleepingComputer Hardware forum for ideas to find a solution.
