Here's the problem i am facing. I recieve this message after reboot and after the splash screen "The procedure entry point _resetstkoflw could not be located in dynamic link library msvcrt.dll" It pops up twice once with services.exe and the second lsass.exe in the title bar. I am running WinXP Home Edition on my PC, all legit. HD is NFTS partitioned. The factory disk only has the option Of reinstall...or a diagnostic . Both does me no good. Even booting into safe mode does not work. The desktop remains black, no start bar, nothing but a nasty error message. I had just installed VHS to DVD before restart. If you can give me some help I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

This issue may occur if you replaced the Msvcrt.dll file with a third-party version that does not contain the _resetstkoflw (recovery from stack overflow) function.

I'd suggest using a BartPE disk to check the version and if necessary copy the original Msvcrt.dll file back to it's proper locations (get a copy from another computer).

FWIW - I've got version 7.0.2600.2180 on my XPPro installation.
