Hey all...

To the point. I ran SPYBOT to find a nice little assortment of malware on my computer. Namely, the ones that kept popping up were Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888 and Winsoftware.WinAntiVirusPro2006.

I search the web on how to get rid of those (which I usually manage pretty well). Ran Spybot: didn't work, AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5: same thing. Made sure my Anti-Virus was fine (NOD32). Ran Smitfraudfix in safe mode, didn't work either.

Now, new problem. I'm currently making sure that I followed every step properly, so I started from the top:

Ran AVG
Ran Nod32
Disabled System Recovery
Re-booted into safe mode to run Smitfraudfix...
Safe mode starts, I see a black screen, Safe mode in the corners, Win XP SP2 and a couple of numbers, but nothing else. No desktop, icon, start menu... nothing.

So I'm back in normal mode and the windows keep popping up.

Here's my hijack log:

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post a new HJT log also but don't chop the top off.

O23 - Service: StarWind iSCSI Service (StarWindService) - Rocket Division Software - C:\Program Files\Alcohol Soft\Alcohol 120\StarWind\StarWindService.exe

##############################################

With that, I managed to run safe mode properly. I ran BFU, Smitfraudfix, rebooted, scanned with Spybot S&D and end up with exactly the same problem: Smitfraud-C.Toolbar888, Winsoftware and Winsoftware.WinAntiVirusPro2006....

Sucks

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67CADC39-5825-431A-B346-721BF7B641B6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bgdckbem.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D651AFF4-9590-424d-BD1E-8E33E090DFB3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ihcxybvh.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: efcccyw - efcccyw.dll (file missing)

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here.

Go to Jotti's malware scan

Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan" box on the top of the page:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wdcecpvo.dll

Click on the submit button. Please post the results in your next reply.

Also post the log that is showing the 'infections' so that I can see exactly what is being detected.

Ok... I don't really know what happened between last night's scan and today's, but seems like my system is clean now. All AVG or Spybot find now are a few cookies and that's all.

As for uploading the file, either it's because the site is too busy or just that the wdcecpvo.dll doesn't seem to exist on my computer, but I can't submit a thing.

edit: Just got the connection and scan from the site: The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file
Like I said, the file doesn't seem to exist on my comp... I think it was Nod32 that dealt with it (erased or quarantined, I don't remember)

Guess it's almost problem solved... Just need to either find the .dll and replace it with a clean one or find the app. that requires it

I suspect it's a remnant of something bad. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entry by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InfoData] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wdcecpvo.dll",realset

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot, rescan with HijackThis, post a new log here and let me know how it's running now.

My computer is now running smoothly, no more popups and no error message at start up (namely that it couldn't find the said wdcecpvo.dll). Other scans still confirm that there is nothing left.

Thanx a lot for you help.

One more thing and then you're all set.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Do you require any further assistance or should I close the topic?
