This may sound mundane, but I am having a problem when I start my computer up in that the Windows Installer is attempting to install a FAX program when there is no fax device attached to the motherboard (i.e. Smartlink, U.S. Robotics etc).

My question is - How do I cure this problem???

Firstly...based on your username...thank you for your service to the country.

Second...do you have any multifunction printers or anything attached? Do you see anything fax related in the add/remove programs section of the control panel? Has there ever been any fax connected to this computer in the past?

There was a fax-modem attached, but fax portion never used. All software for modem has been removed and registryu cleaned.

Using HP-1401 PSC which does not have fax capabilities.

Go to Start> Run and type services.msc then press the <Enter> key. Scroll down the list to see if Fax is listed. If so double click on it. Set the Startup type to Disabled and click the Stop button if the service was Started. Click Apply> OK and exit Services.

Any idea which fax program is trying to install? Even a filename would help - to see if it's the Windows fax stuff or a 3rd party program.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

 That problem has now gone on the back burner with another more serious problem - Missing NTDLR
Extreme Help is needed - I fear I may have to erase and re-install the total system.
