Hello there,

I had a bunch of bad things on my CPU and after a few days of hard work I was able to get rid of most of them. The only ones left were Locksky.NAG and Smitfraud-C when I ran Spybot S&D. And CoolWebSearch (which I had before all this hapened for the last year or so) when I run ADwareSE.

I was able to get rid of Locksky.NAG and Smitfraud-C after following some post on here. I'd just like to make sure there's nothing hidding deep in my CPU. Everything seems to be working fine and after running all the scans the only thing that pops up is the CoolWebSearch. Is it possible to get rid of that??? I found the regeristy it is in but cannot delete it (HKEY_Local_MACHINE:system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_*008f_6q*00d4*00f5*0013*00aa*00b4*00c6*00d08\)
As a result of this I get a blocked message from my AOL Spyware that it has blocked SmartFinder which I think is the same and result of CoolWebSearch. What can be done??????

I have installed and ran all of these programs, some I deleted and some I keep... VundoFix.exe (deleted) Kaspersky(keep) SDFix(keep) SmitfraudFix.exe (delete) AVG Anti-Spyware (keep) CWSHEDDER (delete) AND Paretologic's REGCure (Keep but don't know what to delete and what to keep since it found over a 1000 things and know if i delete the wrong thing I might have to go buy a new computer  ). What can I do???

So to end this long message ( hope it didn't put you to sleep) After running all of the above and my McAFee, AOL Spyware, and WindowsMalware Scan. All I see that left is that dam CoolwebSearch. Can you review my log and make sure I'm not missing anything, and if you can help me get rid of that CoolWebSearch? Which by the way I don't get none of the symtoms that I read about. Only thing that seams to happen is I get that block message all day from AOL Spyware about Smartfinder and if I spell an address in IE wrong it takes me to a ad page (but only one). :flowers:

Here my Hijack Log, and let me know if you like me to run new scans with anything above or something else.

Thanks a mill,
TV

Hi! I in the middle of running the Counterspy scan now on the computer thats has the issue. I hade a few questions and thought I ask while its running instead of waiting.

1st when saving the fix.reg file it asked about encoding. I left it as ANSI

2nd when I installed Counterspy it asked if I wanted to Activate. I said no. I also said no to Active Protection, and TheatNet. Was that OK? I wasn't sure what to do since there were no instuctions.

3rd I installed it with no internet connection so when I slected to scan it said no internet connection found. I connected to the internet but when I hit scan again it didn't look for one. To the point was I suppose to update it or does it come with the most recent version? Again unsure because you just said install and run.

Please advise so I can stop and restart if I have to.

You were correct in both the above questions.

I ran another AdWareSE scan and the CoolWebSearch is still there. Is there any way to delete the regeristy that comes up in the scan? Its (HKEY_Local_MACHINE:system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_*008f_6q*00d4*00f5*0013*00aa*00b4*00c6*00d08\)
I tried to get rid of it but it won't let me. How does everything else look??? Did I get rid of all traces of Smitfraud-C and Locksky.NAG or anything else I'm missing???? Here my Ad aware log.

Looks like a harmless orphaned entry to me.
Click on Start/Run,type regedit then press Ok,then navigate to the key highlighted in bold text:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\enum\root\legacy_*008f__6q*00d4*00f5*0013'*00aa*00b4*00c6*00d08
Right click on the above key 'Permissions',in the opening box take 'Full Control',then right click on the key 'Delete'.
Exit regedit.

My goodness I feel so silly, if that all I had to do to delete it. Ran AdAware after that and its gone!! :flowers: Too easy...

Can you help me determine what I can get rid of in my regedit. Like I said in a early message I ran this program call RegCure from PareTo Logic's and after the scan it had 1047 regedit that had no active file for it. I'm scared to just get rid of everything cause I know if I delete the wrong one I can say bye bye to my CPU. I know there are alot that are from a long time and the mother programs are no longer on my system, but I'm still scared. I also no have all these on my CPU just slow it down and most of them are unnessary. Can you please advise.

I take it everything else look ok? I hoping my system is clean now... Should I run a Kaspersky to see if anything else is there? That scan always find something but I don't know if it bad or not... Thank you so much for your help and guidance.

By the way you never answered me on what I should delete off my system after all the things I loaded to get rid of all these things. I deleted everything but, SDFix, AVG Anti-Spyware, CounterSpy, HijackThis, RegCure, And than there a few text documents left over from all the scans I did with all of these things. What should I do? Should I keep any of these? I plan on keeping my McAfee, SpyBoy S&D, AdAware, and and my AOL spyware. Or are any of these no good and one of the other free ones are better?

Thanks agian for all your help.

Ok here what I was able to do. I did the wise registry cleaner, and it found quite a few things to fix. I choose to fix them and was wondering do I need to do the wise disk cleaner as it recommended? I didn't since you didn't indicate to. And it also asked me if I wanted to create a back up, I choose yes. Was thats right? If so how long do I keep that back up? And how do I get rid of it?

Next I downloaded that CleanUp, but everytime I go to install it off my desk top it gives me a error message that the size is not right and I need to download it again. After a few times I gave up. It don't work.

Did the Java update. But wanted to make sure I did it right. It gave me 2 options for the one you told me to do I picked the 1st one. Also on installation it gave me a warning that it recommended XP SP2 for best use. I can't download SP2 due to a unlicensed copy. Will it still work correctly?

Here the two logs looks like Active scan found something.
