"For What It's Worth" is the name of that song. It's by Buffalo Springfield and Stephen Stills.

Here are the words for you.

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Buffalo Springfield members included
Neil Young
Steve Stills
Richie Furay
Dewey Martin
Bruce Palmer
Jim Messina

Bands 'connected'" to that one included

Poco (unfortunately having lost Gram Parsons 1972, country western was left to others to be influenced by other contempories who wanted more diverse flavors in it... like Emmylou Harris who sang & played with Gram)
Neil Young & Crazy Horse (and a whole lotta others, really... to this day)
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (quite possibly definitive in providing concerts that relied on twice as many additional musicians, as well as the headliners, to fill the air with amplified music)
Loggins & Messina (very nice stylish music that popularized a sorta nautical/islander/traveling sound others like Jimmy Buffett worked on over the years)

More, I'm sure, than those alone.

Roots in * Popular * Country * Rock n Roll * Reggae
which seems to have led to other genres, as well.

Good Stuff.

No self-respecting Hippie would forget the venerable old Protest Songs
like Bob Dylan made signature in his style, too.
