What happens when you run the scans in regular mode? Do you have reason to suspect malware is on your computer? Are you attempting to run two scans at the same time?

Do you have any reason to suspect malware--popups--redirect----alerts, etc?
Can you hear the fans running while in safe mode?

I havent noticed if the fans come on in safe mode or not, they do and are pretty loud in regular mode.. What does it mean when the fans kick on and get loud.. It usually happenes if im streaming or downloading something .. Or running scans

And as for reasons for suspecting anything , no i dont, i dont DL music, movies, porn etc I just like to keep everything up to date and running fast So I use the 4 programs i listed above for all my scans .. Also i use AVG anti root on occasion

I have been googling your problem and haven't found what you would call a difinitive answer. Two things are regularly suggested though. Overheating and corrupt safe mode registry keys. Overheating is why asked if the fans were working in safe mode. As to your question, the more load you put on your cpu the faster the fans will spin keeping it cool. Thus, louder.
How recent is being unable to scan in safe mode? If it has been in the last two weeks you might want to try a system restore if there is no problem with the fans in safe mode.

This is the system restore I was referring to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-xp-system-restore-guide/

Bit Defender only found what Trend Micro had in quarantine.

ok i tried a few things... In safe mode when windows loads up, no matter how long i let it sit on the desktop screen the fans are always going on like crazy, and eventually it crashes ( or shuts down ) completly..

In regular mode , only while doing scans/ virus checks, w any of my programs it shuts the computer down again... So i am lost.. what do i do if i cant even run a scan on my computer...

HP dv9000 running windows XP..

Have you opened up, and cleaned the inside of your PC, lately?
If not, here's a tutorial that should help.
