Sittitng idle, my hardrive will run and spin for the longest time.
Sometimes when I clear a program off of the screen all of my shortcuts have been reordered.
Sometimes IE 6 is super slow and there are two icons in the taskbar.
Sometimes I can not shut off the computer in the normal way, or with the power button. I can only pull
the plug out of the back.
The only thing that the virus and anti-spyware programs can find is in my ATT software, yet when I delete
or quaratine it the IE will not work. So I have to re-install it. And after a time all of the problems are back.
In just an hour or less. These two are:

Hello dpappa and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

There are many processes that can run while the system is idle. Anti-Virus programs, anti-spyware programs, Google Desktop, Windows indexing service or any of those programs doing an update, etc. It is common for any of these programs to wait until the system is not doing anything to run.

As for the At&T dialer, if any of the anti-virus/anti-spyware they are flagging it falsely. This is known as a false positive and occurs from time to time. I recently had a program that I used for many years and with the latest update of my anti-virus program it suddenly blocked it and labeled it as a virus. They try, but they sometimes don't get it right.

If you want to have the system analyzed to see what is running during idle times then I would suggest posting in the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs there can help with non-malware related system questions. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found.

Cheers.
