Hello,

I'm new here so if I don't post this correctly, I apologize.

I've been having problems the last few months with my computer (there's a shock). Specifically, whenever I open IE my computer freezes on a black white page for about 15-20seconds. IE then opens and I never have any slow downs again navigating. I tried downloading IE7 and still find I have problems with opening new pages. I also get problems opening new tabs where the first tab will freeze until the 2nd tab is no longer a white page. Im positive I have a virus or something along those lines, though I've have tried every virus check I can with no luck. I also have tried spybot and adware with no luck.
I'm scared now to ever click a link when I'm surfing because it will freeze the computer while it opens the new link.

Other programs appear slow as well, however I'm unsure if that's just in my head because of this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also get this whenever I start the computer

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

First off, thank you very much for your help right now. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

I've tried to antivirus scan twice now both times around the 20% mark, I get the blue screen of death. The only thing I have time to read is "Kernal Stack Error", however a quick google search tells me it says that regardless of the cause.

Any thoughts? I'll try the anti virus again overnight.

Thanks

Let's give it a try in safe mode.
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
  • If you have trouble getting into Safe mode go here for more info.
Let me know how that works out.

Let me know how the virus scan goes in Safe mode.

Just in case we need to restore any missing or corrupted files, do you have a Windows XP disc?

I have an XP disk.

Safe mode didn't work. I could open other programs but for Bitdefender it wouldn't open. Told me I was "missind a device".

Could the virus be strong enough that it protects itself from being deleted like this?

It's possible that the virus is protecting itself. But more likely you've suffered some corruption somewhere along the way and that's causing these errors.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.
