I have a HP that has a small 7gig hard drive and a larger 80gig as well. When starting up the computer its shows me a data layout from American Trends that says the larger of the two hard drives has failed and i need to back it up and install a new one. I have a bunch of externals laying around. Is it possible to use an external in place of an internal drive? How do I go about backing up the dead hard drive and install the info on a new one and is it possible to use an external? Thanks, if ya need more info tell me what you need and ill give it to ya!

I don't want to assume anything. Which hard drive is the master? If you know the mfg. of the suspected drive you can download a utility program from their website to diagnose problems

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
