A general question. When DLLs are implicated in problems and show up in Event Viewer, is it practical, and recommended, to replace those DLLs from a site such as this?

I now have my C: drive imaged and am ready to do a full reinstall, but would find it much more satisfying to track down and repair corrupt system files myself if possible.

Any comments appreciated. Cheers

Hi rowal, if there may be a problem with system files dont forget the sfc command. sfc /scannow
As for the site you linked I would prefer a site that didnt advertise........porn. That is just a personal observation as a lot of these sites are less than desirable.
I use this site http://www.dll-files.com/

Thanks Monty007.

So you reckon new files may not 'take'? I did have the site you mentioned bookmarked but had a bit of trouble obtaining the files from there. Just came across the site I mentioned but hadn't got past the first page.

Cheers

Not sure what you mean by the new files may not take? First I would run the sfc command and take it from there.

I have OEM preinstalled XP Pro so no CD.

SFC is asking for the CD for 5 files which I have identified from the Event Viewer. I want to replace these files as I am supposing they have been corrupted on my C: drive.

Cheers
