My friend has a brand new pc and everytime she disconnects from dial-up, the pc restarts. She took it back but when they tested it, it didn't restart. Someone told her it's the hard drive. Can this be?

It is very doubtful that the hard drive could be an issue. What you might want to tell your firend is to check the event viewer (Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools> Event Viewer) and see if there are any errors in the "System" area. Please list any errors here (List the EVENT ID, SOURCE and DESCRIPTION)
