About a week ago a few of my gaming accounts got comprimized from a bad link that got clicked and a keylogger was used I believe to steal passwords. Ever since when my aunt trys to play her Bejeweled game it goes slow. Just wanted to post a Hijack This log to get feedback if there's anything unusual in it.

Here it is:

Hi Orion, :thumbsup:

Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums and thanks again for your patience.

1. Please disable SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of HijackThis entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

To disable SpySweeper:

Open it, click > Options over to the left then > Program Options > Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

2. Run HijackThis, click Scan and checkmark the following entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

Your complaint was a slow computer. The following are all things you can "fix" in HijackThis to help speed up performance. None of these are needed to be running in the background. Fixing them in HJT does NOT remove them or make them useless. It will just keep them from running in the background all the time. They will still work perfectly when you open them manually.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime Given the extremely simple functionality of this Tray icon, it is a totally unreasonable resource hog it has been measured to use as much as 1.5Mb of memory at times.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe this task, usually installed as a startup, does not actually need to be installed as a startup since iTunes starts it up anyway when it needs it. We recommend therefore that you disable it.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe
CTFMon comes with Microsoft Office XP and Windows XP it activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office XP Language Bar.

O4 - Global Startup: BigFix.lnk = C:\Program Files\BigFix\bigfix.exe
It is used to automatically receive and read technical support information provided by computer and software manufacturers and other technical support experts.
Also can automatically check your computer for bugs, configuration conflicts, and security holes. It is a resource hog!

O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE
Added with WinZip version 8.1. "The new WinZip Quick Pick taskbar tray icon gives you instant access to WinZip and your Zip files. Just left click the icon to open WinZip, or right click it to instantly reopen recently used Zip files, access your Favorite Zip Folders, open WinZip Help, or start WinZip itself.". You can right-click and close it - choosing to not re-load it at start-up

Close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button; close HijackThis!

3. Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete the following file in bold if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ALCMTR.EXE

4. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

5. Finally run the F-Secure Online Scanner
Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
Follow the Instruction here for installation.
Accept the License Agreement.
Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Please reboot post the F-Secure report together with a new HijackThis log and let me know how things are running now.

Hi Orion, :flowers:

Scan worked fine, HijackThis log looks good so you're almost ready to go.

1.

Oh and BTW, the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ALCMTR.EXE folder didnt exist.

Could also have been in: C:\WINDOWS\ALCMTR.EXE

Anyway it's gone so nothing to worry anymore.

2. Remove previous restore points and set a new one to purge any malware that may have been backed up:

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

3. In order to prevent future infections follow these recommendations:

a. Visit Windows Update on a regular basis to stay current with critical updates.

b. Install and run the following free programs:

* Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here!

* Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found
here! Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

* SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here!

* SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here!

* IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Keep all these programs (including your anti-virus) up-to-date and run them regularly.
If you do not update regularly they will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

c. I recommend you to read Tony Klein's excellent article: So how did I get infected in the first place?

d. If you want to fight back the Malware Writers, please take a look here!

Glad I was able to help and if there are any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at BleepingComputer Forums, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us!

Good luck! :thumbsup:
