The question isn't that simple, jamesdolen.

What do you want to do with your system?

XP is mature, and most software works on it.

Vista is the "next best thing", and more and more software will become compatible.

Only you can answer which is best for you.

The relatively small price difference probably shouldn't be your primary determining factor, in my opinion.

Like many people, I recommend using XP until at least Vista SP1 is released.

In the long run Vista would be better but at this time I would reccomend XP Pro. It is really up to what you plan to do with it.

I would reccomend XP Pro as well. It is a very mature OS that will continue on for at least another 3 years (probably closer to 5) and is very stable. Vista will be in this extended Beta testing period for at least that long and by the time MS gets it right (nature of the beast if you will remember 95, 98, and 2000) they will have supposed to introduced their next big OS (rumors I hear)

Vista is new and still has room to grow so it's best to stick with XP until Vista matures.

If you have an iPod or a Zune I would highly recommend staying with XP. Vista currently has no working software to let an iPod or a Zune work on it. Everytime Apple comes out with a fix, it'll work for a few days then it stops working. (Vista could be combating it? )

Also Vista is just a supped up version of XP with a prettier design a few hidden features that aren't that useful to the average user.

Yes, it does.

I take that back. My memories are out dated.

iPods do work on Vista, however some small bugs still exist.

Zune does work with Vista.

I apologize for my outdated remark.

I would still prefer XP or Ubuntu. Vista uses too many resources just to display non-aero windows and the desktop, at least on my computer.

Also if you're a gamer you'll want to stick with XP for another year or so. Vista's game compatibility is improving, as it will continue to do, but it's not there yet.
