I had another post in the Windows XP area of the forums which can be found here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...=56&t=86875

As you can see in that topic, i was infected with "spy sheriff", and it apparently unleashed a whole mess of problems. Right now I can only run in safe mode. Restarting in normal mode takes about 15 minutes, and even then none of the desktop loads up. I can open task manager and that's about it.

I did this HijackThis log in safe mode because it doesn't allow me to do anything in normal.

Hello,

Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show.
Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution.
So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused.

In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts.

Actually it doesn't suprise me at all that your system is so terribly infected. Your Windows is unpatched and you don't have even an Antivirus and Firewall installed. O_o
I have a bad feeling about this and I suspect more malware being present here than anything else.

Perform next steps in the right order...

* Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

* Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

---------------------------

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
do not use the scan yet

---------------------------

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present (some entries won't be present anymore):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {566C2B45-015E-43BE-AF6D-30F204494EE7} - D:\WINDOWS\system32\driverc.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - D:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: CWebDirObj Object - {C003C49F-53E4-4A72-B7D6-0B2B9997392F} - D:\WINDOWS\webdir.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DE0B3210-B828-475B-96F0-6796FE533E46} - D:\WINDOWS\system32\driverd.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [em3k] D:\WINDOWS\em3kfiles\install.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [checkers] D:\WINDOWS\checkers6.exe
O21 - SSODL: lwRKnJaLQOnzE - {C093683A-6A39-C290-BBB7-F394A9DFB6EF} - D:\WINDOWS\System32\guhasls.dll
O21 - SSODL: DCOM Server 37389 - {2C1CD3D7-86AC-4068-93BC-A02304B37389} - (no file)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

--------------------------

Delete next files:

D:\WINDOWS\checkers6.exe
D:\WINDOWS\System32\guhasls.dll
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe, Click Start and Allow to run the express scan.
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • It could be possible it displays a popup to buy it in between, to buy or 50% discount. Just close that popup again.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
    This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
-------------------------
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt.

Post the following logs in your next reply:

* Log from DrWeb CureIt
* Log from SDFix
* New HijackThislog
* Log from Combofix

(you may need more than one reply to post the logs)
