I am trying to watch a DVD on my laptop (Toshiba Tecra 8200, OS Win 2000) and it says the "CD in the drive is not formatted". The drive is definitely a DVD rom and it plays audio CDs nicely.

I don't know if I have any DVD playback software, but if not can anyone recommend a free download?

Many thanks.

Goto http://www.free-codecs.com and on the left side of the page, look for these FREE softwares.

VideoLan (VLC)
Media Player Classic
Real Alternative
QickTime Alternative

But VideoLan will be the most versatile of them all.

that laptop comes equipped with intervideo windvd, so check the disks the computer came with for it. Load it up and it should work.
