Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis forum mike397x :thumbsup:

Please move HijackThis to a permanent folder on the hard drive such as C:\HJT
Create a new folder and place your HijackThis.exe inside that folder so that the backups of log changes it creates are saved in the same folder and can be used to reverse the line entry deletion if found to be necessary.
If HijackThis is used from a temp folder it is in danger of being accidentally deleted by Disk Cleanup or similar tools.

How to create a new folder named HJT
1. Click Start/My Computer,in the 'My Computer' window,open the window in which you want to create the new folder,click on Local Disk C:
2. From the 'File' menu choose 'New'.
3. From the 'New' menu choose 'Folder'.
4. Type the folder name: HJT
5. Then press Enter.

****************************

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri), to your desktop.
Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 – Search, by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

****************************

Download and run Fixwareout from the link below:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
After the reboot post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt in your next reply,along with a new Hijackthis log please.

Regarding this entry in your log:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot

Description of SpywareBot:
SpywareBot is a suspect anti-spyware application that deceptively leverages the Spybot Search and Destroy name, and provides users no End User License Agreement.

Recommendation for SpywareBot:
It is recommended that you remove this software from your computer to secure your system from suspected applications that might threaten system security.

If SpywareBot is still installed on your pc,click on Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and uninstall/remove SpywareBot.
Restart your pc when you've finished.

*****************************

Please make sure all hidden files are showing:

* Click 'Start'.
* Open 'My Computer'.
* Select the 'Tools' menu and click 'Folder Options'.
* Select the 'View' tab.
* Under the 'Hidden files and folders' heading select 'Show hidden files and folders'.
* Uncheck the 'Hide file extensions for known types' option.
* Uncheck the 'Hide protected operating system files (recommended)' option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

*******************************

Download/install AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.

Please follow these instructions very carefully.

Launch/start up AVG Anti-Spyware.
On the main page click the 'Update' tab,and then 'Start Update'.
Note:
If you have any problems running the update process prior to running the scan,download/install the 'Full Database' from here:
http://download.ewido.net/avgas-signatures-full-current.exe

Once the updates have been installed,do the following:
Select the 'Scanner' icon at the top of the screen, then select the 'Settings' tab.
Once in the 'Settings' screen,under 'How to act?',then under 'Set default action for detected malware to:', click on 'Recommended actions',then click on 'Quarantine'.
Under 'Reports' select 'Automatically generate report after every scan' and unselect 'Only if threats were found'.
Exit AVG Anti-Spyware,don't run the scan just yet.

You might want to print/copy the following as you need to be in Safe Mode from here on.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this,restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Have Hijack This fix the following [If still present], by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.
Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{39B93206-AB8C-4B4C-B0A1-5242D5490F08}: NameServer = 85.255.115.99,85.255.112.90
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{609DA983-017D-4D68-A4C3-A7356D7EB8CF}: NameServer = 85.255.115.99,85.255.112.90
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.99 85.255.112.90
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.99 85.255.112.90
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.99 85.255.112.90

Find and delete if still present:
C:\Program Files\SpywareBot

Still in Safe Mode launch AVG Anti-Spyware.
Click the 'Scanner' icon at the top.
To start the scan click on 'Complete System Scan'.
Please be patient,it takes a while for the scan to finish.

Once the scan is complete,do the following.
If AVG Anti-Spyware detected any infected objects:,click on 'Apply All Actions'.

Next click on 'Save Report'.
Copy and paste that report into your next reply.
The report can be found under the 'Reports' tab at the top.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware when you've done.
Reboot normally.

Post the AVG Anti Spyware report and a new Hijackthis log into your next reply.
Let me know how your pc is running now please.

Have you any idea at all what these two entries are,do you recognise them:
O4 - Startup: desktop(2).ini
O4 - Global Startup: desktop(2).ini

RitchieUK-here is the desktop{2}.ini info.........

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-21786

Also,I've been using Kaspersky anti-virus for many years.....Is it any good?
Is there another A/V software you recommend other than Kaspersky?
Should I leave/use the AVG anti-spyware running all the time?
Thanks ,
Mike

Best leave those two entries alone,they don't appear to be malicious.

Kaspersky Anti Virus is the best in my opinion,stick with it.

I certainly would'nt,it's just not necessary and you'll save on system resources.

If all's ok,please do the following:

* Select the 'Tools' menu and click 'Folder Options'.
* Select the 'View' tab.
* Under the 'Hidden files and folders' heading unselect 'Show hidden files and folders'.
* Re-check the 'Hide file extensions for known types' option.
* Re-check the 'Hide protected operating system files (recommended)' option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
In the 'System Restore' window,click on the 'Create a Restore Point' button,then click 'Next'.
In the window that appears,enter a description\name for the Restore Point,then click on 'Create',wait,then click 'Close'.
The date and time will be created automatically.

Next click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
The 'Select Drive' box will appear,click on Ok.
The 'Disk Cleanup for [C:]' box will appear,click on the 'More Options' tab.
At the bottom in the 'System Restore' window,click on the 'Clean up...' button.
A box will pop up 'Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?',click on 'Yes'.
Click on 'Yes' at 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions?'.
Now wait until 'Disk Cleanup' finishes and the box disappears.

RitchieUK,
I must say,that when you guys fix a computer....you really fix it...many thanks.
I followed your directions,and the computer seems to be much better,faster & more responsive.
One thing though...when I do a scan with spybot search & destroy...I am getting 4 items..they are:
Avenue A:tracking cookie{internet explorer:home}
Doubleclick:tracking cookie{internet explorer home}
Mediaplex:tracking cookie{interenet explorer home}
Bluestreak:tracking cookie{internet explorer home}
I fix them ,and they are deleted,but they seem to be come back....?
Any further suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike
