When in Microsoft Word or a similar program, I go to file/print, change the selection from "Canon MP730 Printer" to "Canon MP730 FAX", and then click OK, the computer restarts and starts error reporting. This has happened a few times since I have been trying to troubleshoot it and I have gotten different messages. This is the most recent.

I am running Windows XP and using a Canon MultiPASS MP730 with the most recent drivers installed. I have been using this setup for 3 years with no problems... until today. The printer selection still functions as usual.

Any advice?

I would uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Usually clears up this sort of issue.

Did you have any automatic updates from Windows installed right before this happened?

Try a system restore to before you installed the last patches. You may need a hotfix from Microsoft. Sounds like their patch messed up your software driver.

I think you are right, but I tried to do a system restore and it didn't help. I think it may be one of those that you can't uninstall.

I copied this from the error report.

BCCode : 7f BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

What should I do now? I use this software daily in my business and it is really killing production.

Here's a link to the error message: http://aumha.org/a/stop.php#0x7f

Since the most likely cause is memory, I'd suggest downloading this free memory tester and running it on your system. Just follow the directions on the web page: http://www.memtest86.com/

Let the test run for 2 or 3 passes (overnight is better) - and errors indicate a likely problem with your memory.
