Have you run a CHKDSK /f from the command line to see if there is any damage to the hard drive?

Say,
I know this is an area meant for XP and Professional, but I have Vista Home Premium. Can I run chkdsk if I need to?

This may answer you question Jessie. It is not on point about running CHKDSK but the article does describe it's use in Vista.

You can do it from PE mode. It inolves finding the registry files in the System Restore folders, renaming the old one's in the Window directory, then copying them from the System Restore to the Windows folder (all in PE mode).

It doesn't work all the time, but I'd guess at a 50 tp 75% success rate from what we've done at work.
