I am running windows XP so I followed this guide http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/ and decided to use the system config tool method. My computer loads to a blue error screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

It tells me to make sure that any new hardware or software is properly installed (nothing has been recently installed) and that I should boot in safe mode. When I do that I still recieve the error message.

Technical information:

*** Stop: 0x0000000A (0x000000FF, 0x00000001, 0x804E2E4)

Please let know if there is anything that I can do to fix this problem.

Thanks, Liz

Hello Liz, welcome to BC

When you hit F8, what do you mean it says select first boot device?

Also, do you have the XP installation CD?

Thanks for the welcome. I was hitting F8 too early and it was going to a different menu. I got it to go to the Advanced Startup Menu and I loaded the computer in safe mode and I still received that error message. I don't have the XP installation CD, for some reason it didn't come with my computer. I thought I was running XP Home but it is actually XP Professional.

When you get to that menu, try clicking Last Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked).

Hmm..OK. What is the make of your computer and the specifications (RAM, CPU, etc)?
