I have Vista. You have helped me in this past.. I appreciate it greatly.
I was on a Yahoo page when I got these two warnings from Kaspersky that there was a Trojan file trying to download and needed to be stopped. Allow or deny? Allow the program to stop the download? Or allow the download? I put allow... that's what my husband said to do. Then I got another warning that said the file Trojan program Trojan.JS.Agent.b File: C:\Users\rene\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\HD1F2A70\mc2[1].js
could not be disinfected..or somethiing like that... do you want to delete? I said Yes (obviously). I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Panda, Kaspersy and everything you said to do. Here is my HijackThis file:

Hello there,

It is a good idea to print off these instructions. There is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available. It is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and that you don't miss out any steps.

Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Please download the Suspicious File Packer from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but do not run it.

Now reboot into Safe Mode.
This can be done tapping the F8 key as soon as you start your computer
You will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.
Make sure you choose the option without networking support.

Please open the Suspicious File Packer you downloaded earlier.
Paste the following bold part into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\Windows\system32\ActiveToolBand.dll

Allow SFP to pack the file. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.

Reboot back to normal mode.

Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to the second field and browse to the CAB archive that was been created on your desktop.
The cab file will be called requested-files[*].cab (the * stands for the date and hour).
Then click the Send File button below.
Please let me know when you have submitted the files.

Please perform this online scan: Kaspersky Webscan
Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept"
A dialogue box will appearing asking "Do you want to install this software?" Name: kavwebscan_unicode.cab
Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next"
Select a target to scan: Click on "My Computer"
When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text"
Post the Kaspersky scan results in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis log.

I followed all of your instructions.
Fixed the R3, sent the cab file... but when I tried to do the online Kaspersky Scan it said:
Update process FAILED. No further antivirus actions can be performed. You must be online... cannot guarantee detection of latest files.
I was online and I tried the scan twice, with no other programs running. Downloaded the Active X and it began downloading some files. After a minute I received this message.
Also, I was wondering, HijackThis could not gain access to my hosts file... is this something we should address or just leave it?
Anyways... here's my new HijackThis! log:

Please visit Panda Online to carry out a virus scan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your desktop.
Post the contents of the report in your next reply, along with a new Hijackthis log.

Please download, install, and update AVG antispyware
Load AVG antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top.
Under Manual Update click Start update.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Then click on the Scanner tab at the top.
Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine.
Click Automatically generate report after every scan.
Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan.
This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side.

When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action.
Click the Apply all actions button.
AVG antispyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As".
This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Close AVG antispyware and reboot!! Please post the log in your next reply.

So I tried AVG: no luck. Program will not work; it says in an error message that the program did not initialize properly. Damn Vista! I really appreciate your continued help (and patience!).

I know that this will work!
Run HijackThis.
Click on Open the Misc Tools Section.
Then press Generate StartupList log, making sure that both boxes next to it are checked.
Select Yes at the prompt.
A Notepad file will open, and will automatically be saved in your HijackThis folder.
Paste this log in your next reply.

YIKES!!!
When I started my computer today I received this message:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
It told me to restart the computer and to run chkdsk and check for viruses.
Technical information: (0x82C0CBA0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
So I restarted.
Then I get the message:
Windows Error Recovery
Stratup Repair
Your computer was unable to start...
Checked for problems. Asked if I wanted to use Sytem Restore to fix the problem. I selected yes and the computer restarted.
Ran Kaspersky, no threats detected.
How to run chkdsk??

Not at all kellydgk, this thread seemed to slip through the net sorry. Apart from the initial infection in the temporary files which we cleaned successfully, I haven't seen anything else linked to malware at all, or in other words nothing that seems to have caused the problems you are having. The fact that you have already run Kaspersky and it reported no infections says that we could be looking at a software or even a hardware issue here. As this operating system is Vista, did you install it recently? Is it a brand new PC, or did you install the operating system on an older PC.

OK, here's the plan. As things change over time, due to the fact I left you in the lurch, I want you to post back with an update. Are those errors still occurring? Is chkdsk trying to run at startup? I need everything you can tell me. If it also possible to reformat the PC to how it was when you first installed Vista or is this simply not plausible? I really don't think this is a security problem though.

I'll also take a look at one more log, to make sure nothing is lurking.

Download Silent Runners and extract it to a new folder on your Desktop.
Run the Silent Runners.vbs file.
You will receive a prompt: "Do you want to skip supplementary searches?" - click "NO."
If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow Silent Runners.vbs to run.
This script is not malicious so please allow it.
A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run. (It won't appear to be doing anything!)
Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file, and copy & paste it in your next reply.

Man, I guess I missed the email notification and I just realized that you had responded, and boy have I needed you! First of all I bought this computer with Vista. And secondly I have had two blue screen incidents upon booting my PC. It said something like: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses and run checkdisk. Technical info (0x82c0cba0, 0x000007b, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000)." So I restarted and it said "Windows Error Recovery. Startup Repair: Your system was unable to restart. Do you want to do System Restore?" I did. I copied this info at some point I don't remember, soon after the problem occured.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 1000008e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 8AA0BE03
BCP3: 9EA8AB38
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini050707-01.dmp
C:\Users\rene\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-62993-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\rene\AppData\Local\Temp\WER55FB.tmp.version.txt

Read our privacy statement:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=501...mp;clcid=0x0409

So then... A few weeks later (today actually) my Kaspersky popped up saying:

detected: Trojan program Trojan.JS.Agent.b URL: http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/lib/s/mc2.js//mc2
deleted: Trojan program Trojan.JS.Agent.b File: C:\Users\rene\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\HD1F2A70\mc2[1].js
deleted: Trojan program Trojan-Downloader.Java.Agent.c File: C:\Users\rene\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\9\3c0ee589-73a652e8/FcPred.class

Why do I keep getting these damn Trojans?!
By the way I don't know how to run checkdisk on this Vista format.
Here is the information from Silent Runner.
