Starting up new build, Iget a single beep, all fans etc working. When trying to enter bias screen, system a little unstable but settles down and screen stabilizes, but hard drive keeps showing up as PR Slave! all connections are correct & H/D jumper set properly. The other thing that bugs me,is that I can set everything in the bias apart from the Day & date. the latter could probably be set after loading a system ?
Could anyone supply answers please !!
I have used an AsusA8N-VM CSM Motherboard, a Seagate Barracuda 250gb,IDE hard drive with 8mb cache
ATA100. And an Asus 16x 16 DVD Writer. Plus a Kingston 1mb RAM stick.
I am also looking at using Linux Knoppix as a running system.
I nearly fogot to mention I have also included a 3.5 floppy drive which shows connection in the bias but when i try to use, the monitor shows up not ready!!

Just wondering, is your hardrive jumpers set to cable select? Or to Master?

Be sure to dbbl check that the hard drive is connected to IDE one. Make sure the red wire marker is in pin 1 on the mobo connectors for the floppy and HD. I know most newer cables are keyed, just trying to cover all the bases

This one "bit" me the other day - have you ensured that the jumper is set correctly from the diagram on the drive? I turned a drive over doing this the other day and set the jumper on the wrong side (sorta like a mirror image).

FWIW - I just built my first computer that started the first time out! Every other one that I've built (probably 30 or so) have all refused to start until I checked everything again. It's just a part of the learning curve!
