Hi All!

Great site! I have been reading here for about 2 hour and have not found an answer to my problem so I decided to join and post my question.

I had a hard drive crash last year and after getting my computer back up and running, I had not done the SP2. I ran the SP2 update a couple of days ago and have had nothing but problems ever since.

I am running XP Pro. Since the SP2 install my IE6 (Internet Explorer) will not open at all. No error message, no nothing. It just won't open. The automatic updates are not working either. It keeps trying to run the SP for Office XP but does not complete. The only error message is ... unable to complete please try again later.

I had done a recovery checkpoint before SP2, but after the update recovery was turned off. When I turned it on, all the recovery points were gone. I tried download IE6 and reinstalling it but it says I have a newer version on the computer. I tried to uninstall IE6 but it does not uninstall. I can not run IE7. I am in college, online and am required to use IE6 or Netscape 7.2. I have installed Netscape and it seems to be working fine. I am manually downloading SP3 for Office XP right now.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks All

The 2 most important things to prepare for SP2 are to 1) Scan your system to ensure that there's no malware present and 2) Update all of your drivers that are not SP2 compatible.

I'd first check your Network Adapter's drivers, then your motherboard/chipset drivers.
