i have dell dimension 2400 with windows xp home and sp2. Lately, a when i start up the computer, after the windows xp screen loads, the monitor stays blank for a few minutes before finally going to the welcome page where i put in my password. This has been happening completely at random. But, if I shut of the computer while the screen is blank and i restart it, it comes up fine. But sometimes that doesnt work and I just have to let it sit and wait for it to load. So how can I fix this?

Try removing and then installing the latest available video drivers.

Here is a link to the Dell Dimension 2400 drivers, and Documentation.
Unistall the video adapter from the Device Manager, and re-install at boot.

Could be caused by randon errors or your video driver isn't the most recent or best..
