Troubles With My Laptop And Linux

I want to load Gentoo on my laptop. currently my cd drive is not working. I do have a thumb drive, but my pc will not load usb on boot. Anyone know how to make a 3.5 inch floppy that will install usb drivers and load Gentoo start up on usb? Or, anyone know how to load the Gentoo any other way? Please help.
