Hi, I don't know how I got it but I have an icon that keeps flashing a "Security Alert" bubble which directs me to www.spylocked.com, when I look it up under the Toolbar Properties the icon is just named "no file" and I also have a program in my Add/Remove Programs window named "Windows Safety Alert" that won't let me remove it. I am also having a seperate problem with my browser resetting itself upon rebooting my computer to an old unwanted home page instead the new homepage I have selected. I did all the steps you described and here is my log post......

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today.
From your log it appears that you are missing one important program: an antivirus. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. Without one you are at a high-risk of reinfection; while I can try to sort your problem out, if you have no protection, the infections will keep resurfacing.
Here are some great free antivirus programs:
Antivir, Avast!, AVG, Bitdefender Free
Install one of these, then run a full scan, letting it quarantine/delete anything it finds. Let me know if there is anything that it reports but can not remove.

I have noticed that you do not appear to have a firewall installed. This is an essential piece of software that acts as an extra layer of security, which restricts access to your computer from the outside world.
Therefore, please download one of these free firewalls:
Zone Alarm
Kerio
If you would like some more information about firewalls and how to use them effectively, take a look here.

Before we start with the fix, I see that you are using an unpatched version of Windows. We can help you, but first you need to help us.
Any reason why your windows isn't up to date? You don't have even ServicePack1 installed!
Remember that your system is extremely vulnerable without the necessary security patches/updates, so malware can get installed automatically while surfing without any problems.
Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/default.mspx and update to Service Pack 1. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
When your system is clean afterwards, then update to SP2, because updating to SP2 can cause problems as long as you are infected.
Please post back a new log.
Thanks,
Charles

Thank you for your help Charles, I did as you asked and it took care of the icon for www.spylock.com and the program that I couldn't remove, but I still have the problem with my browser resetting the homepage to http://bakersfield.cox.net after I changed it to a new homepage. Also I have defragged my computer but it runs unusually slow. Also my wireless connection keeps resetting here on my computer which never used to happen. Here is my new log.......

You still do not seem to have ServicePack1 installed. I cannot stress how important it is that you install this update, so I'd like you to follow my earlier instructions and get it installed straight away.
Once you have done so, please post a new log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,
Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1, and press Enter.
A text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply, along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.
Now, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again.
Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please include rapport.txt along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,
Your HijackThis log appears to be quite short. If you have done any of the following please let me know in your next reply:
1. Have you already "fixed" items in HijackThis?
2. Have you used the "Add checked to ignorelist" button in HJT?
3. Are you using Selective Startup?
This can be bad if they are malware; I will not know what other things are hiding in your computer that you have disabled.
Go to Start | Run, type: msconfig | OK
When the window opens click on the Startup tab and make sure there are checkmarks next to all entries.
Then press OK until you are out of the program.
If it asks to reboot, let it, and make sure you boot into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Next, please find and delete the following file (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tahxqcj.dll

Let's clean out your temporary internet files:
Close all open windows before we start.
Go to Start | Control Panel | Internet Options | General.
Click the Delete Cookies button.
Next to it, click the Delete Files button.
When prompted, place a check in: 'Delete all offline content', click OK

If you have Firefox installed, we need to clean out these temporary files as well:
Go to Tools | Options.
Click Privacy.
Press the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to finish, before closing it.
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

Now we'll clean other temporary files and your Recycle Bin:
Go to Start | Run | type: cleanmgr | OK.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure 'Temporary Files', 'Temporary Internet Files', and 'Recycle Bin' are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Reboot back into Normal Mode again.

Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open, click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan has finished - if anything malicious is found - click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your Desktop, so you can post this log in your next reply.

Please include the Panda log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply. Don't forget to answer my above questions too.
Thanks
Charles

Hi Charles,
The answers to your questions are:

1) No, none other than the ones you instructed me to do in a previous post

2) No

3) No

I ran msconfig and had to check two items that were unchecked and I did not find the file you asked me to delete tahxqcj.dll.

Hello there,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable AdWatch:
Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Next, please find and delete the following files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\thin-138-1-x-x.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Cache\mswinstall.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Cache\wrapperouter.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.15.inf
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

You're using an outdated version of Java (latest one is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6). Please update and remove the older versions. Do the following:
Go to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
Select it and click Remove.
Then download and install the newest version from here:
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6

Please post back with a new HijackThis log. Also give me some details as to how your computer seems to be running now.
Thanks,
Charles

Charles,
Did as u asked but when I rebooted and ran HiJack this again for a new log those items reappeared so I checked them and fixed them and then ran a new scan and log and that is what I am pasting here. Also I downloaded Java 6 but it said that my operating system wasn't supported, that I needed to be running SP2, should I have upgraded to 2 already because I thought you wanted me to wait? The computer is running ok,a little slower than usual but I think I may need to upgrade my RAM also. Here is the log....
