I am trying to help a friend fix her computer from freezing...she says it will freeze up at anytime when she is working online, apparently no specific websites cause it...says it can freeze up within five minutes or after an hour. She has had her computer into a computer repair shop but still has the same problem even after they supposedly fixed it. She runs spybot, adaware & avg anti spyware on it and has followed the instructions for removing anything that has been found. Am not sure if there is still a virus, spyware or malware still running on it. Any help would be much appreciated...Thank you! carolsueb17

What problem was the shop supposed to fix? Was it malware or something else? Do you know if they opened the box and if so did they do any cleaning?
If malware is suspected have her do an online scan with Bit Defender.
Please let us know if malware is found and the description of the malware

I have included a link to a very informative site that can help determine the cause of the freezing. As you can see, there are many and various causes that will require some trouble shooting.

Windows freezes or stops responding frequently.

This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities.

Software related issue.
Driver related issue.
Operating system related issue.
Heat related issue.
Hardware issue.
Serious issue with Windows
Hardware failure.

There could be a number of issues at hand here. The shortest way is to do the following START RUN and type eventvwr. This will open a screen where you can choose from 3 options (Application System and Security) Please check there for red crosses, selec them them and post the contents here.
Event viewer tut
