One day, while I was playing a game online, my computer suddenly went to the desktop as if I had been able to click "Show Desktop". When that particular game minimizes out, it locks up. That had never been a problem until now. When I checked my Add/Remove Programs list, I originally saw "System Alert Popup". I scanned and deleted several trojans, did the same for spyware/adware, and did the Smitfraud Fix (read another topic). It was gone from my list, so I thought my problems were over. I went to playing again, and I was fine anyway from 5-40 minutes at a time, and I'd get forced to the desktop again. This happened several times. I'm a bit of a computer technician, and I easily concluded that this was not a hardware issue. Then I began to notice a pattern. "iexplore.exe" began to show up in the processes list and Internet Explorer hadn't been opened. I know that this is definitely tied into what is causing the problem, and it's not really Internet Explorer. I've scanned with Housecall and PC Tools (same makers as my firewall, which I had disabled at the time of infection) Antivirus; as well as Ad-Aware SE, Ad-Aware 2007, and McAfee Stinger repeatedly. When I find things, I delete them, but apparently, whatever this is, is either hidden or regenerative. Is there a way to stop processes from starting? I wouldn't mind switching from IE to Firefox.

Hi,

The forums are really busy, that explains why logs get behind. If you still need some help, please start with posting a new hijackthislog in this thread. Don't start with a new thread.
Then I'll take a look.

Hello,

First of all, we'll have to restore your Winsock. To do this,

Go to start > run and type cmd
A dos Window will appear.
Type next in the dos window: netsh winsock reset
hit enter.

Reboot your computer.

Then, I see you have Absolute Poker Basic installed.
If you didn't install it with intension to play with, I suggest you uninstall it, because in most cases, these programs are supported by malware, getting installed without asking for it and also lead you to sites where malware is lurking.
If you do play it, then leave it alone.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.ocx (file missing)
O23 - Service: COM+ Messages - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchosts.exe" -e te-110-12-0000213 (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
